I have you both beat. ZERO eggs from over 50 hens.
People don't believe me when I tell them that all of my roosters lay as well as my hens and that I get as many eggs from them as I do from my best laying hens.

I spent $30 bucks on feed today and almost $2 bucks a dozen for eggs. I wasn't happy.

Not to laugh at your pain but that is funny!!!

Hi Sooner, Dakota is better, back to school; tomorrow and we had to take him in last week with an ear infection but that is getting better also, I am really glad school starts back tomorrow, I am not looking forward to going back to work however since I have had a week off. Did some genealogy research this week and took it easy around here, to cold and snowing to get out and haul all the scrap metal I had to go get, guess we will wait for spring thaw for that!!!! HAHA!!!! Lynn

I can tell you all where the snow is.....it's at my house. Our roads are covered...cars going very slow on the highway. We're supposed to report back to school tomorrow for professional day but I'm not sure if that will happen. DARN! We might have to be out for that. LOL

I am excited...we are getting ready to out anad rig the water heaters up. Yeah! Does anyone know how many is safe to plug into each other. Kind of like linking Christmas lights together.

Morning all! Got some homemade cinnamon rolls in the oven rising - they'll be ready to bake in another half-hour. Going to take them to my parent's place in Cushing to wish them a happy New Year. We didn't get to see them at Christmas for obvious reasons and didn't make it up there Friday.

Youngest daughter is feeling better about life in general. I think she's cried things out for the most part. Oldest daughter is recovering from a stomach bug that nearly did her in. She had to go the doctor for meds. Wound up having to get a bag of IV fluids, too. Treating her health problems is real balance act - get one thing cleared up and it causes something else to go wacky. Lupus is really insidious, and I wish I'd never heard of it!

DH is heading out to feed/water the chickens. I guess I'd better get my shower and get dressed so I can feed the horses. Feeding the horses is a bit more than he can handle. We did put out a bale of hay for them yesterday, before it got really cold. The other two horses should be coming home soon, and we'll have to put a bale out for them, too.

Ya'll have a good day. I'll probably check back in this evening...

Just have Richard trace the power source to the circut breaker box and see what size ( Amps ) it is using. Just plug in a light and switch the breakers off one by one until the light goes out, then check the amp size. if it is on a long cord reduce the number of plugs depending on size of the breaker..............

So now that you are totally confused, if that breaker is not being used constantly and it's rated at 20 amps or more I would plug 5-6 into it without a problem. But please check everything first Donna. Oh I almost forgot to have you check the bulb wattage also, 25-40's are fine and all you should need.

We made a trip to Wichita Kansas to get a trio of fainting goats. Gosh, it sure is cold & dreary in Kansas. It is so much nicer here, with all our Okie friends. Anyway, now we have 3 bucks & 2 does .... so, I guess I need to sell one registered fainting buckling, if anyone is interested. They are really cute & friendly ... white with black spots.

While on the trip to Kansas, I started thinking about how some birds get a vitamin E deficiency & have wry neck or problems standing. Of all the hundreds of chickens we have, we've had few develop issues, and usually when they're young & fed strictly crumbies and are in cages where they can't forage. I did a google search on foods high in vitamin E and found that sunflower seeds are highest in vitamin E. Anyway, maybe that's why all my breeder birds seem healthy ???? ... one of the feeds we give them includes whole grains and sunflower seeds. Maybe that's why our hens are still laying, although they certainly slow down during this cold & cloudy weather. Anyway, we went to Walmart last night & bought a big bag of black oil sunflower seeds. I'm going to start adding them to the crumbies for the young birds to see if that helps.

Oooh, Dee is making homemade cinnamon rolls

I keep runner ducks (don't know about the "Indian" part) and love them, because they can't fly so can't get into the stock tanks and leave nasty presents where the llamas, horse and sheep drink. They run around in a group, so can be used to train herding dogs. They look like bowling pens running around the yard. I noticed yesterday that of the 13 runners we have, about half are drakes

, so they will be going to the next auction.

Isolation Check....
splints/cast the leg ???? UUGGHHH not sure where to start...

I fear the outlook will not turn out in your or the Roosters favor, Just a reminder that culling can be an act of compassion.

Actually, DH made the dough - I just roll it out and sprinkle with cinnamon (the good, vietnamese stuff) and sugar - roll it up, slice it and bake it. Soon as they are done, I'll make the icing. The house is really smelling good!
