I have felt electricity many more times than I have seen it. (Think electric fence!)

There was that one time I was in a boat with friends (on the lake) that everyone's water soaked hair started standing on end. As we moved away, we saw a blue jolt come up from the water... Lesson learned: Never ride inner tubes pulled by boats after a thunderstorm when it's misting. Or better yet, if you see lightening you can be struck.

An excellent example of seeing it is in one of the clear glass balls where the electricity follows your fingers. If you still don't believe in electricity Stimpy, we could do an experiment next POOPS to try and change your mind.

Sorry Faerie about your dog. That's awful!

Glad you got some rest. What colors are the NN's? Not that I need another rooster.

I have a one solid black and the others are red. The black one has green legs, bow tie, and rose/pea(?) comb. The others I can't distinguish between yet, but there is a mix of yellow or green legs and single or fancy combs. I think all of them have the bow tie.

Good luck, Monty.

I've been taking hot water to my birds. I'm adding it to the ice in their dishes.

I have to go investigate the house water though. It took about 30 minutes to fill up my bathtub. It will really suck if I have to haul water in for a few days.

I has been my experience that if my pullets haven't started laying before it turns cold, then they won't start till spring. This year even the veteran layers have taken the year off.

Monty, I told you you need to change how you talk to the ladies. And not just talk, they need you to listen once in a while.

Now the Campines as well as the Buffs have started laying.

Sorry Monty, but those are great little hens I got from you. ( no, not any special feed or lighting, just a shoulder to lean on when they need it )

What I think I am going to do until I get a power line ran out to the coops is to get 1" PE pipe which comes in rolls of 100' for about $30 at Lowes and run the extention cords through that to protect it from the llamas stepping on it and if we end up getting a dog, keeping it from chewing the cord. This is the stuff we used to run our new waterline from the well to the house because it is flexable, expandable and can be connected using plastic couplers and metal screw clamps rather then PVC which you have to use cement and the works with.

I am going to set up the water warmers today after I get home from work. The bulbs I put in there were the 40 watt chandiler bulbs, which are long and narrow. I though they would work better in the pans I have. Going to go to the thrift store tomorrow and see if I can find more tins and light fixtures. I would like to make at least two more. Also for those of you who are interested, You can use the light socket and cord from the metal brooder lights and the cost new is the same at the light sets you buy new.

So we are considering getting a collie. When I was a kid both my grandmothers had a collie who was really good at guarding the chickens, ducks, cattle, etc. I really loved Princess and Gypsy but am not sure the characteristics of the dogs I remember are typical to the breed. Does anyone have any experience with these dogs who are willing to share information with me? I did not want to get another dog but am really tired of losing so many birds to raccoons.

Well I am going to get back to work, hope everyone has a great day!

I use the chandelier light ( i think 40w, but maybe 25w ) in my small ones, and 40w regular bulbs in my large 5gal ones. On the really cold days the 5gal ones that are outside will still freeze up at night. I'm going to put a 60w in for this cold that is coming.

Hey K.T., I just saw what you posted & showed it to Gerald. He was so tickled to see what you wrote that he wants to save all our silkie eggs (if we get any this week with this cold weather) and give them to you if you go to the Blanchard auction. We'll be going to Blanchard on Saturday, but will be late. Gerald & I have a conceal/carry class we're attending all day Saturday, but I think it ends around 5 pm., I hope. We WILL go to Blanchard, just a little late.

I took my CC class when it was warmer outside... not hot, just warmer

Man, I already feel sorry for J, who has a defense tactics class right now with day shooting tomorrow/thurs, night shooting on Fri, and some other range stuff on Sat/Sun! All outdoor range...

Cool Carla! Glad to know you and Gerald are going to the Blanchard Auction Saturday. Roll Call on who else is going to the auction. I am not sure if Uli will be coming along he is not so much into the birds, auctions and stuff, but I am trying to change that. I tried to entice him by the prospect of nachos

but he keeps making retching sounds

when I mention nachos.

Well I look forward to seeing everyone. Planning on wearing one of my POOPS shirt but it maybe hard to see since I will have a heavy jacket on as well.

I can understand not liking chickens. If you weren't raised around them, it would be easy to have a distaste for them. But not liking nachos? That just ain't right. What planet is he from?
