Okies in the BYC The Original

Ok so lets see if this works..

Here is a few pictures of the brooder I made. It is about 37" long and about 23" high and 20" deep. I used a sodering iron to cut and weld the plastic for the light, screened area on top, as well as for the feeders and waters. The nice thing about this you do not have to open the brooder to water and feed the babies. Also the light is on top so there is no chance the chicks can get burned. The light unscrews from the top so this is total easy to clean and sanitize. This one is the biggest I have ever built so I got a plastic tote that has wheels so it is easy to move it around. I think it took about 2-3 hours to cut out the holes, mount the light and screen in the top and fasten the wires to hold the waters and the feeders. The feeders are actually parrot feeders which are $12 dollar each but they are easy to clean. Of course the waterers fit on the liter bottles, these are new. Just purchased them last month and they sure help keep the brooder cleaner, the babies tend to want to paddle around in the water. I believe the total cost with feeders, light, screen, etc. and plastic container was about $55 give or take.

This is the inside and you can see there is little room taken up by the feeders and waters that just stick from the outside

My other brooder is similar just not as big and does not have wheels.

So what do you all think, pretty cool or what?

I vote ghost, but he had help. I lifted the bucket and found a very confused looking little Cornish hen. She apparently hopped from her perch onto the lip of the bucket and it flipped over on top of her.

I plan to train her to do that on purpose. I could take that act on the road.

WOW!! You're really good! Can I steal that??

For those of you wondering when the next exotic animal auction in Prague is, I received my postcard today and the next two auctions are January 15/16 and February 19/20. They now have an email where you can request to be put on a notification list. The email to request notification is kayensign @ gmail.com (no spaces)

I wonder what Michael Daugherty found at Alex this evening?

Take I44 West toward Lawton and get off at Exit 107 which is the Blanchard/Newcastle exit. Go through Newcastle on Hwy 62 to Blanchard and go all the way through Blanchard to South County Line Rd. There is a rodeo arena on the left side of the road and you turn left at the street just before the arena (you will see white pipe style fence around the rodeo grounds). You will go a mile or two and there will be houses on both sides of the road. The auction building is on the left and is a odd shade of purple. It is the Blanchard Vo-Ag building, but I don't recall there being any signs on it. The sheet metal building sits back off the road and there is parking in front of the building and to the left of the building.

Edited to add: The address is 2500 South County Line Rd. Blanchard, OK

Exactly! J watches sitcoms and I don't... I watch history channel stuff and he doesn't. The only reason I've never dated or married somebody who likes sports is that I can't stand the televised game and I don't do crowds well for live games. That, and I've always been afraid that their paraphernalia (i.e. logo gear of the college/pro team of choice) would take over my house like NASCAR stuff does to other people's houses.

Hey! I resemble that remark. lol

With motor sports I could care less about the drivers or teams. It's the cars that draw me. When your family car hits 200 deg it's probably blowing steam, at 250 Deg. a race car is running just right.

Renault once built a Formula One racer that turned like 25,000 RPM and it was banned from the track. Why? It was fired with Diesel.

Yah, its like watching a bunch of guys running into each other over and over again.

Its all about knowing the stratagies and nuances. The same way it turns a bunch of guys running into each other into the offense and defense of a football game. It turns a bunch of cars going around in circles into a chess match of adjustments and timing that ends in one car (team) getting to the end first. But, to each his own.

Oh yeah, and CHICKENS.

Not sure how many gallons the tote is but that should be just about the right size. It was the biggest one I could find that had height and depth I wanted. Next POOPS I will bring one of my brooders so everyone can see how they are made. A long time ago I made my own small rodent cages much the same way. My big thing is cleanliness, because we all know poultry are not the cleanest animals on the planet.
A friend of mine asked me why I did not make more to sell and I told her with the cost of supplies and time no one would want to pay the price I would need to get. Plus with a little practice they are really easy to make. The first brooder I made was out of a covered litter box (new of course) I now use it as an emergency care ward.
Glad you liked it!
