They have holes cut in them for a door and a wood perch inside .... about like a dog house, except for a few chickens. A lot of gamebird breeders use them for individual shelters for roosters & tie a cord from the barrel onto a leg of the rooster.

I'll probably just put them in my chicken/turkey pens & let the birds sort out who gets to claim the barrels. I'd be willing to bet that some of my turkeys will take up residence on top of the barrels, and some lucky chickens will get to roost inside.

That makes a lot more sense... I was sitting here wondering "why would they need barrels for chickens?"

Hey Al, I have got to hand it to you .... if you weren't there to get everyone fired up and all excited (especially the women ... Gerald made me say that)

the auction wouldn't have been as much fun. We really enjoyed visiting with you the most. I enjoy the big bear-hugs you give too

Ooops, Gerald just told me I can't say that.

if anyone up this way is looking for some of them barrels like that i have 20 to 25 of them made the same way with roosts inside an tie cords.ive used them in my breeder pens when i had roos that tried to fight the other roos.when i was raising fighting games i put diffrnt bred hens on them so they could only lay in their barrels an turned my roo out in the pen.that way i could mark the eggs an know exactly how everything was bred.this was a major deal when you were tryin to raise the best fighters.

Fairie : As many of my close Okies know I only have vision in one eye, Thanks to a little thing back in 1990 called Desert Storm. I have had many surgery's and 2 human donor transplants that by the way didn't work. I do try my best at not letting it show but sometimes the big lumps on the side of my head give it away LOL, I can function at almost anything and have been doing Ok at driving day & night, I just can't let a little thing like having one eye get in my way of work and fun. My friends Okies included always make jabbs at my vision imparement as I am so handsome they can't make fun of my looks LOl hehehe. Hang in there girl, we got your back if by any chance you need to hitch a ride to an auction just put the word out and we will come a runnin for ya.

I don't think it'd bother me as much if I hadn't wrecked my car once in the dark. Even though it was somebody else's fault (t-boned by a driver that lost control), it really freaked me out. Maybe I should woman up and get past it, but it's just not something I'd been too keen on pushing.

I'm a wimp, what can I say.

You definitely should show up to a Blanchard auction, even if only to visit with us other CRAZY FOLKS. You don't even need money to enjoy a good time there. We are having too much fun & it's contagious. Well, it has become an obsession for Gerald & me. We now have too many birds & other critters to count. But, along with enjoying a good auction, we have met the best people & and had more fun than I could ever imagine. Sometimes we even come home with some awesome new treasures to add to our collection.

Carla : your a sweetheart, I too enjoy your company tremendously, Even when you bring that Nanook of the north guy with you, tell him I said that LOL. I still remember you were the first Okie BYCer I met 2 yrs ago.

It is fun getting everybody into the spirit and introducing everybody around, it's just who we are.

Those are definitely nice barrels for raising a few birds in at a time.

Chuck, I hope all is well in Nowata today. The weather will at least warm up above freezing, and that for sure is a good thing.

Well, time for me to get outside & start feeding & watering all our critters.
