I am glad you clarified that - I thought that it sank because they panicked and swamped the boat trying to get all the baby snakes out of it. The actual reason is even more mentally entertaining.

They eat SO MUCH! And drink SO MUCH! I'm afraid to start pushing the feed until I have them lined out in a large pen. They already seem to grow over night. Their next pen I have to build. That's my next project.

I'm still not sure who are boys and who are girls. Here in the next month or two is when I'm expecting to see some real differences. Right now if I had to guess I would say 5 roos and 3 pullets. I'm sure we will end up with at least a nice pair. I have to find my APA Standards though. I don't remember what the angle on the tail is supposed to be. I'm thinking it was 30 degrees. I'm hoping we might be able to take a pair to the Big Bird Show in Arkansas.

Seems like most of the shows are bantam only.

Yes. the tail should be at a 30 degree angle.

I'm kinda proud of the tails on my birds.

Carla,

Remember back to the Shawnee poultry show of 2008 when I bought mass quantities of silkies from you and one cuckoo marans chick?

Here's the Cuckoo Marans:

And here's her eggs:

I know more BYC people are going.....
Cammie's going to be there but just to look/vists. I think the same for Al.
OKJunebug will be there with Seramas (and my two Silkies

)

I'm sure there's more than that, though.....

Oh man! I hate it when that happens

Hawks are one of only three predators we've had problems with here. I have had several very close encounters with them (i.e. walking up on one eating a chicken, finding one caught in the duck's pen.... ), but I think I've only lost two chicken to a hawk.

I lost a couple of young chickens to owls before, but I think this is my first loss to a hawk.
I hate that he got one of my best hens, but that's usually the way it works. They'll fly right past a bird you plan to cull anyway and kill one of your breeders or a show prospect. Heck, I have a young rooster out there that, if I'd known the hawk was coming, I'd have thrown the rooster up to meet him. He could have caught it in mid-air and we'd both be happy.

Well I'm home. Actually I've been home for almost an hour. We had to move the new entertainment center in and I think I broke my finger doing it. I was on the leading edge and Jordan was supposed to be helping me. Apparently there was some sort of misunderstanding and the dang thing went down and crushed my hand between it and the door stop. I have it wrapped with an ice pack and ace bandage. I can't move my index finger. It and the middle finger are swelling pretty bad. I need to get up and get everything moved to the new entertainment center before I sit here all day and get nothing done.

I'm looking for a hen that may go broody over the next couple months. My daughter is wanting/needing to do a science experimnet for school and has decided to compare and contrast the success of a natural incubator (broody) versus a manmade incubator. May need up to 3 hens to increase the odds of getting one broody. Looking for silkie, cochin, orpington, game, or any other that is considered to "frequently" go broody. I'm in NE oklahoma. Please PM me so I don't have to monitor posts.

OKJunebug! You're bringing Seramas (to show right)! I'm working with our SCNA State and District Reps to find out how to get a special meet set up. Yea! I hope you don't mind Gerald. I was planning on contacting you once I had my figurative ducks in a row. I don't think they have ever had a any kind of meet in Oklahoma so it's taking a little bit of work to get up to speed.
