Thanks for the welcome. I live just South of Tinker, on a few acres in an old neighborhood that "time forgot."

The only "poultry" auctions I have attended in Oklahoma are the one in Perkins on Saturday morning and the "Exotic Animal Auction" in Prague.

I would like to know about other poultry auctions from folks who have been there. I have been hearing about the auction in Harrah for years, but folks were vague about the the date and time. I was glad to read on this site that it is Saturday evening at 5:00.

Looking forward to "local" information.

Thanks for the offer, but will have to miss the Newcastle show this weekend. I am getting ready for the Oklahoma State Beekeepers meeting that will be held March 8 in Enid.... until then, my only focus on poultry is on getting my hen houses ready so that when I fire up the incubators in late March, there will be a clean and dry house to confine them.

I had to smile about the post someone had about one chick making it out of the egg and getting it some friends at Atwoods, so they could keep each other company. That is exactly what happened to me in 2002 - only one turkey poult hatched in the incubator. I carried him around for 3 days to keep him quiet, then bought him some friends at Atwoods. He doesn't realize he is a turkey and struts more for people than he does for the turkey hens. Talk about a spoiled pet! Even almost 6 years later, he likes to be petted and talked to.

After March 15, perhaps we could try and get together to attend a show or poultry auction. I suspect we would have a wonderful time together.

Poultryandbees, Welcome again!
The D&D auction near Harrah that ran for about ten years closed about a year ago.
Now there is a new one in Harrah and another one will start soon just East of Harrah. There is a thread with a list about Oklahoma Auctions.
We are not too far from each other. I live south of Choctaw. I have some friends that live near the area you described.

I definately will want to acquire hatching eggs of various breeds later this spring. When I first started my menagerie, I regularly purchased Americauna eggs and quail eggs online. I have also purchased many eggs for hatching at auctions. Last year, I acquired a non-commercial breeder's license so I could try my hand at Wild Turkeys. I tried putting them under setting turkey hens and in the incubator, but never hatched any. I hatched quite a few guineas and chickens last year though.

Long story to say that I enjoy my poultry as much as my bees. There is something good for the soul in watching chicks, poults and keets grow.

Right now, I have at least 75 hens and only get about 2 1/2 dozen eggs each day

I am trying to get their production up - and figure out if some of them just are not laying or are hiding their eggs:/

P&B, that was me! I'm glad I'm not the only one that can't stand to see them alone. I did it again last fall, when I hatched a crippled one. He too thought he was human and was very confused when I put in the two chicks.

Hey, who is going to Newcastle this weekend? Okie, you and Emma will be there right? Pretty sure Monty said he's coming, and I know Grace and P&B can't. Luvz, what about you?

probably not, with the weather going on and hubbie working days until the shop closes on the 29th I have only been able to ALMOST finish one of the breeder coops, all that is left is shingles and the pop door and latches for the doors.

Okie I ended up using the siding I got from the lady you got the shipping crates from, some metal shipping crate frames, and added a few 2X4 for roosts and nest box etc. I will have to post a pic when it is finished, I did have to buy some plywood for the floor and roof and they ended up being bigger then originally planned it is 7 feet x4ftx4ft but this just means I can put more of the breed in it.

I have the materials minus the hardware to build 4 more so we are going to be really busy around here until they are done.

Oh and I have been watching a lady down the roads chickens wondering if she had a rooster and hatching eggs well finally yesterday they were out free ranging when I went by I now know she has a roo and plan on stopping by there sometime this weekend. OKie how is your hatch going?

anyone know where I can find the fine little pine shavings or saw dust? The only thing around here that tsc or atwoods carries is big pine and cedar chips, I cant find anything that is fine or smooth.

I get my pine shavings at Cross Feed store, located at I35 and NE 63rd Street (6203 N. Bryant, OKC. - 405-478-2327) The Kentucky Comfort shavings work well. They don't have big sticks in them.
