You're right about the humidity. I successfully hand-hatched another chick today, my Buff Orp. I didn't think about it, but I've never hatched when it was so dry, and the room the bator's in has 0 humidity. I put the plug back in the top, hopefully that'll help.

So has anyone been getting snow? All we've got is LOTS of rain, we're getting pretty flooded. My chickens were a sorry looking bunch when I fed, and they smell a little like corn meal and wet dog!

I've decided I want to hatch some more Mille Fleurs, and some White and Red Silkies. So if anyone knows where I can get the Silkie eggs, that'd be great!

Hey guys, here's the listings in OKC's paper today:

Ok, last time I'll reply to myself. *haha* I finally got a cute pic of the babies!

The d'Uccle from Grace is the one on the bottom right, and the two black/yellow ones on the left are Clark's little sister's. 99% sure they're White Crested Black Polish, she picked them out at Atwoods.

My boyfriend and I went to the Harrah auction tonight. Less than 30 people there, and there were less than 20 chickens, all standard breeds, mostly roosters. No chickens went for more than around $5 each. There were guineas, but the owner PO'd them because nobody wanted to pay more than $5 for them and they wanted $9 each.

Hopefully there will be a better turn out next week.

Anyway, I bought 14 standard araucana eggs for $2.25 from a lady in the parking lot, and she said they're pure bred. I'll see if they'll hatch. At least I didn't go home empty handed!

I think I should take some chickens & guineas there next time, along with some eggs to sell. It looks like my kind of fun on a Saturday night!

Grace, I raised royal palm turkeys last year, hatched over 100, and sold some of their eggs. I got tired of all the turkeys last fall & sold them all. Anyway, I hatched the eggs alongside my chicken eggs, and never had a problem. They're larger than chicken eggs, but they fit ok in my auto-turner standard egg cups. They have a longer incubation and hatch in 26-28 days though.

You won't be jealous of how many eggs I have when I have to deal with staggred hatches for the next month and a half

No snow here, just soggy ground and rain...

Carla, that's great info to know, thanks

1st post here. I've kept birds for a long time, and am ready to get back active. I'm in Mounds, just south of Tulsa. Right now we're down to 1 aracauna, and a langshan.
My son really wants to get an enterprise gowing, and we had made a good run at it until a disesase ran through (bought brids at an auction). We had to put down everything, and let the yard sit. After sitting empty a whoel winter, we started all over with a mix of whatever we could find locally. They did well except for the local wild dogs, and we are again down to the 2 birds.
I'v PM's Buck to try and get some Welsummers in the yard since my son likes those and Langshans.
