Wish we lived closer so we could come fix it for you!

Nah, it's my own fault for waiting until the last minute to check it. Satanica and I can hole up with the propane heaters for awhile. I'm sure I can sleep thru a power outage if I try.

-Stimp-

I know it would be nice to sleep through it & I might even try if it weren't for having kids in the house. LOL.

Carah : I know what you mean like monty said they don't want to hang with us, if our power goes out my DD will have to endure the dreaded parents for countless hours on end LOL I love torturing her hehehe.

Late morning!

Sorry to hear y'all are getting ice. We are getting cold and that is it. No moisture to be seen...so far.

Mike - I missed that monster Quest...doing the church thing last night.

Everyone is welcome to come to my house! I have plenty of meat and wood! Our roads are clear and you can watch the birds from inside!

Good Morning Okies,

BRRrrrrrrrrr it is already cold out there! I got all of my chores done and now my bones are frozen. I need some hot chocolate with a splash of coffee.

Then to get to some house chores and homework, that is if I can stay off of this darn computer all day. I cannot keep up with you guys, I have already been falling behind.

I think we need a recap letter at the end of the day so for the ones of us who can't read all day and can't seem to catch up can be in the know, LOL. Does anybody want to volunteer?

me now.

Well, I have another concern. I have a roo that is acting funny since yesterday evening. I can't see anything physically wrong with him and he is still eating, but he keeps going and laying down and will sit on his feet and eat that way, like he is too tired to stand and eat. He will get up and walk away if I or another roo messes with him. As far as I can tell he does seem to walk fine, but I am little concerned because I have not noticed this before. Anybody have any suggestions?

Another concern I have is incubator related. Last night when I went to turn my eggs, the heating element was not on and it was down to 70 some degrees inside the incubator, but the fan was still going. I thumped the top and it came right on and as far as I can tell it has not had a problem since, but it does have me a little worried. I have all those eggs I got at the auction and ones from Steph. So I started looking on craigslist for a new one, and now am wishing I had looked at the one that was up for auction at Blanchard. I have been wanting to make myself one, but have just not had the materials and/or time and money. I might have to put some money from my school loans towards a new one when that comes in, uggggg.

Something like this (either cold, or temp spikes, or humidity) is why I'm considering heavily either getting the guy on Craigslist to build me one, or buying one. I haven't had the money either.

Kate and Lady - what y'all need is a buddy with an extra sportsman that will just leave it at your house! I will stop bragging! If you come for a visit I will hatch your eggs! I know...it would be cheaper to buy the incubator than pay the gas. But think of all the things you could haul me form down that way!

Well the day is half over finally. I don't have a clue on how to waste the rest of the day, let alone the rest of the week. I don't have to be back to work until Monday morning. I am going to go crazy.

The worst part of the storm seems to be going south and west of us. We are just catching the edge of it. There is still icicle hanging from everything. We haven't had any power interruptions yet.

So far nothing here except cold wind. We're as ready as we'll be. The cheapest generator Vashi could find to replace the stolen one was $600, so we decided not to get it.

We're in a rural electric coop that is usually very efficient, but under the expected conditions it can take days to get service restored. It was 5 days last time.

When we bought this double-wide mobile home (13 years ago), I worked for ONEOK (originally ONG), so we had all gas appliances put in, including the hot water heater. When the ice storm of 2007 hit, that really saved us. We didn't have heat because it was electrically fired, and we didn't have an oven, but we had hot water and the burners on top of the stove could be lit with matches. We also had a small woodburning fireplace, but we can't use it this time because the chimney needs cleaning. Friends nearby who didn't lose their electicity (I assume their lines are buried) kept trying to get us to stay with them, but we're kinda independent and worried about the poultry.

When we had the small Dutch barn renovated this spring (Vashi says it's an expensive chicken house, though only the small room is used as an incubator/brooder room), we had a new gas heater put in. It's well insulated and doesn't rely on electricity. So if worst comes to worst, we can slog back and forth through the snow--to the house to eat and back to the barn to sleep. One of the most important things is that we have hot water, so I can keep the poultry watered. Our daughter and s-i-l live no too far from here and have a generator, so if things get too bad and the roads are passable, we can gos tay with them.
