Yeah. Turns out the furball found the cat food bag and gorged himself.

He won't be doing that again... right now he's sitting behind me on the couch begging for food because Mama is staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarving him.

Certainly glad it wasn't anything life threatening. My cats can have a full bowl of dry cat food and still think they are being starved. What they really want is some canned cat food, which I don't give them very often.

He won't eat canned food unless I refuse to feed him dry food all day. Seriously. I have to put out the dry food twice a day, otherwise he'll eat it all and come begging for more. He also won't eat table scraps, etc (which is a good thing, he does NOT beg at meal times), but it makes hiding medication in canned food pretty much impossible.

He also doesn't like sitting on laps. He'll sit next to you, or behind you, but it's a very rare thing for him to actually sit ON anybody. Sole exception is when my daughter is watching a movie... he'll lay on her. It's rather funny looking too, because he's so big and she's so small.

Love the picture of the cat with your daughter. They both look very comfortable.
I learned the hard way that the only way I cand give a cat a pill is to use a plastic pill plunger. My neighbor and I adopted several cats from the animal shelter a few years ago and although they had all their vacinations, several had a cough. She and I would wrap the cats in a towel so we wouldn't get clawed and then I would try to poke the pill down the cat. After one of the cats inflicted deep wounds in my index finger, despite wearing gloves, someone told me about the cat sized pill plungers. I had one for the goats, but it was obviously too large for the cat. Don't ever want to give a cat a pill again without using the pill plunger. I have never had a cat eat medication hidden inside food. I find it difficult to get my dog to take a pill hidden inside a ball of cheese. They just like to nibble rather than gulp so they discover the medication.

Couldn't wait any longer we had to candle our eggs we got this weekend. Although the veining is still small we can see it for sure developing in about 10 of the 12 for the Porcelain D'Uccles, a lot of the Cochin eggs we got from Steph, and a few of the RIR from the auction. I am hoping I just couldn't see all the veining with the RIR because of their darker shells, but I am not sure. I guess I will just have to wait and see and keep

So far the bator has not done its problem again and is keeping the temp. I hope it was just one time deal and continues to work through this hatch. I checked the wiring to make sure nothing was loose and didn't notice anything weird. However, I have been really thinking about making a new one. I am too addicted to hatching now I can't turn back.

Of course, my hubby is going

more chickens. Although, secretly I think he likes them too. Just don't tell him I told you guys so. I think he has a reputation he has to keep or something. So I was out in the barn doing some cleaning, bcs his parents left lots of junk stored out there in some of the rooms. I found an old electric skillet and I got to thinking maybe this could be used for the heating element of the new bator I would like to try and build. Does anybody know anything about this, Al do you have any recommendations and could this work? I am not sure, but it seems like I read a while back somewhere that some people have used electric griddles/skillets to hatch eggs.

You would get along well with my mom, she loves the edges and wants all the corners. The corners are her favorite, as kids we weren't allowed to have the corners, but could have all the middle we wanted.

I have a lot of problems trying to determine their sex. Just watch their combs. I don't think I've heard any of the roos crow and the pullets take forever to start laying. It's a hard task to me. Good luck Faerie.

P.S.

I would love to hear if anyone has a good way to tell.

It's not difficult once they start crowing and try mounting the girls.

It does take a while longer than other chickens, but sometimes you can tell by their other behavior like aggressiveness or higher posture stances. Oh they can start getting streamers on the back of the head. As far as I know that is specific to the roos.

All we've gotten so far is a "regular" rain storm, but we still lost power for 5 hours yesterday!
At least, it's stayed right above freezing.... but I think the cold's still heading our way...
I think we will be fine down here in SE OKLA, I just hope the same is true for Cement!

Well we finally lost power around 7:15 this morning. I knew it was just a matter of time. We almost always lose power when the weather is bad. I'm checking in on my phone and will try to do so again later. I hope everyone stays warm and safe.

Good morning okies..... We survived the night and still have electric. I hope everybody checks in soon and wish Al would too. Even if he lost power as prepared as he was you think he could get the computer going for 5 minutes.Lol.
