Here is a couple of pics of the pen I made for George and his hens, it works better then I ever could have hoped it to. They are nice and dry and so is the feed.

Hi Tara, Glad you are Ok. It is snowing like crazy here. I guess it is pretty, if you like white.
Stimpy is probably loving it, well maybe not since I think they lost power.
Where have you been hiding?
I have been trying to decide which hens to put with that handsome roo since I don't have any Cubalayas.
I have some red pyle standard modern game pullets and I have some half white leghon/half brown leghorn pullets. (I wonder how I got those)
They look a lot like the one in the BYC picture of the week.
I also have some Silver spangled Hamburg hens. Anyway I need to put some hens with him.
I might see if Mike can find me some gray game hens.
Anyway I am rambling.
Glad you are back around.

Lots of snow here. The sky to the east is white, so I can't see our pond. The guineas disappeared for a bit, which frightened me because I thought the stray dogs had come back and offed the rest of my pointy-headed birds, but I found them in the playhouse. Good guineas. That's using your smarts! While I was visiting with them I noticed how the ice had formed tiny stalactites along the plastic. FIL gave me a tiny Nikon for Christmas, to carry in my pocket, so I took a snapshot.

Unless i am mistaken...the muskovies only like other muskovies....right? So if I could get a couple Donalds from the crosses...I would so be happy! Not sure when I am headed that way but know for sure i will have folks in the City come March

Our muscovies LOVE anything that will stand still for them in the spring. Our muscovie girls have had "dates" with our other boys and our muscovy boys have chased down the regular girl.
So we have cross babies. They are called mules, and supposedly the are in fertile.

Afternoon my friends...the snow is deep here! I would have talked more but My wife was working! from home! Not me! I took a nap...after I slept late...after going to bed early! That is what I does when it snows! I am working on rabbit hutches...will head back out now...stupid cold

They're out of one of my golden duckwing cubalaya stags. We ended up with wheatens, golds, a rare blue/gold stag, and a couple of blue wheaten pullets. I kept three pullets, still haven't decided which males of mine to keep. I need to make a decision soon, because they are starting to pick fights all over the place! Beautiful little birds. Hoping I can take a few to pryor for the show, if my entry gets accepted.

one will suffice, and they are crested ducks, the mallard appearance, or penciled, is available in any domestic duck(As that is where they all trace back too. Same as the Wheaton or black breasted red is so common in chickens. muscovies and ducks can cross but they will be sterile hybrids. just like crossing a chicken with a guinea or pheasant.

So, Muscovy ducks are different somehow than other breeds of ducks so that crossing them yields a sterile hybrid? Are they closer to a goose or something?

sorry guys power went out then i had to work this morning, just got back

they are close enough to breed but far enough that they will be sterile.

ive read that they are a breed of goose.i had regular ducks an muscovies last year an they never crossed.ive always heard the will cross an be like a mule.ive seen some they make good meat ducks cause they get big

in fact they are called mules and hinnies, what throws me on this is i believe males are mules and females are hinnies, but in the equine world a mule comes from a mare mother jack father and a hinnie comes from a jenny mother and stallionfather.

I bet the hamburgs and him would make an interesting cross.

Grey games hens would be best, though.

I've not been on much 'cause I started school and I'm there Mon. mornings and all day Tues - Thurs. I'm trying to also work around that schedule, but I'm not quite adjusted to it yet.

Still forecasting snow tonight! Sure would be a change from the constant rain...
