What I love is that there is the Farmer's Almanac and the Old Farmer's Almanac and they are sometimes similar and sometimes way different. The Old Farmer's Almanac says it is the "original" so I guess it is the one that goes back to Benjamin Franklin. I find it amazing that anything can be accurate when predicted more than a year in advance - when our weather guessers can't be accurate predicting a week in advance with the most current information from computer models and wind currents and temperatures.

there is a difference between the two- Old Farmers is almanac.com, Farmers Almanac is farmersalmanac.com
here is the farmers almanac prediction- they seem more accurate

South Central U.S. Weather

February 2010
4th-7th. Very unsettled. Snow Texas, some areas receive 6". 8th-11th. Colder. Snow Arkansas, with 2"-5" accumulation, then fair. 12th-15th. Fair, then flurries over Southern Plains. 16th-19th. Stormy. 20th-23rd. Snowstorm, with 5"-10" inches possible. Heaviest in Oklahoma. 24th-28th. Fair, cold Southern Plains. Becoming unsettled Southern Rockies.

and they say our winter will be colder and wetter

then you have Old Farmers:

FEBRUARY 2010: temperature 44° (4° below avg.); precipitation 3" (1" above avg.); Feb 1-4: T-storms, mild; Feb 5-10: Snow north, rain south; cold; Feb 11-13: Sunny, warm; Feb 14-17: Rain to snow north, showers south; cold; Feb 18-20: Sunny, mild; Feb 21-28: T-storms, then sunny, cold.

for what its worth....

I will be so glad when spring gets here. Have lost so many birds, goats and etc. No wonder people get stressed. Last time i talked to Mike he was out cutting limbs for work that was after he plowed ice.

Went to Durant Tuesday night. Man it was cold. They did not have any usual birds. Love to go there but by time get home it is time to work.Hope to see some of you at Cement or Fletcher. And again on the 13th.

Well guys and gals, I'm headed to bed. Gotta go to work in the morning. It will be the only day that I can get to this clinic in 3 weeks. I only work there on Fridays. Sell? M'dear, the plans are free here, with pictures . Pretty simple.

Needed: Bucket, pan that it fits in, bolts, nuts, washers, funnel, lid for bucket. Drill and bits to drill a hole for the bolt and bigger holes for the feed to go through.

Well, I think the pan I have might have too tall a "lip" for my bantams. I want to get/find/reuse from somewhere, some 3 gal buckets with lids for the bantams, it'll be easier for me to find the trays that those fit in too. However, I'm going to try this one and see how it works.

I think you must be thinking about Poor Richard's Almanac. Ben Franklin had been dead almost 30 years before the Farmer's Almanac started up. I only know this because I love Poor Richard's. It is where we get most of his famous pithy sayings like "Early to bed" and all.
