You also have no idea where he kept that rooster, and no idea what it was exposed to, after it left your house.

I know.... he said it was inside a barn, no insulation tht it was exposed to, and no poison.... and it didnt choke!..... Really?! He wants me to make it right since he paid so much for him, and I will. But I cant decide if I want him to bring to rooster with him so I can see for myself.

He was talking about his niece show the pair for 4H.... It makes me mad that it is dead, if it is. But what makes me even madder is what he said when he called... He was nice and reminded me of who he was and then said..... Hey what would make that rooster just up and die that I bought from you!..... My response, Nothing he was absolutely heathly when he left!

Well I am certainly not defending the guy but they can just die for no apparent reason. I had a Speckled Sussex roo just fall over and die one day while I was standing there and he wasn't acting sick at all.

Had your roo been being kept inside where he wasn't quite used to the cold and then this guy just tossed him out under the stars?
Did he put him in a pen where another rooster might have killed him?

I had some modern bantams that had been being kept in a heated barn and I put them in my chicken barn where it was dry but not heated. I had a light on them but they all eventually died.
Is this guy wanting his money back or what?

Just some thoughts.

It wouldnt bother me if it was something I had been palnning to sell, but he was insitant that he was taking him home. The rooster had been outside in a pen with my spare roosters and had been doing fine, no runny nose or anything. they had been wormed about a week and a half ago. I dont think he was in with any other roosters. The hen he took is fine just the rooster died. He was nice and healthy, good size on him, 8 months old, and took off running around the pen the walked up to my DH when he stepped in to get him yesterday.

I can understand if he had been acting funny or wasnt a really heath bird to begin with or even older. But no cause at all, and when the guy called it was more of a tone as to what I might have done to cause him to die. NOTHING, just makes me mad. The only reason I question if he is really dead is because he was insitant that he was taking him home and the price he paid( by his own offer), makes me wonder if he didnt have this planned... He is a talker, says his dad use to be a state tester and makes sure his birds are cared for. But he had a story to go with why he offered so much for the rooster to begin with, this would be the other reason why I wonder if he is dead.

If I purchased a chicken that died the night I bought it and it looked healthy, I wouldn't bring any new birds on my place (especially the place I had gotten it from) until I knew it wasn't something that was contagious. Sounds more like he thought about how much he had paid and is wanting more birds for the money. OR he knows why it died... I would want to see it. You definitely wouldn't want to trade for something that was his fault like maybe a predator attack...

What is he wanting? 12 more rare colored chicks

Mud and snow is your friend, you can take and track the mutts back to where they live. And if you have a video recorder running it makes great evidence should you need to go to court to recoop your losses.

DH keeps talking about putting up a critter cam. It's a great idea, but he's so rarely has time to work outside that I don't think it will happen this year. As far as tracking the dogs, I followed the tracks into the east pasture. From there it's still grassy, so I couldn't find any more prints. I will stay up tonight, watching for the dogs, until it's either too cold or I'm too sleepy. I've got a sand bag on the porch rail to steady my shot. If the dogs come anywhere inside the pen area, I'll be able to hit them.
