There will be a screening of the excellent film FRESH at the Lawton Public Library, 110 SW 4th street, Lawton, OK on Saturday, March 13 at 7:00 PM. Similar to Food, Inc., only much much better. It spends less time on critiquing the problems and more on solutions and alternatives.

At the end of the program, Grady Phelan of Phelan Ranch Company, third generation rancher and a recent Polyface Farm apprentice, will present a brief question and answer period about his recent experience at Joel Salatin's farm, which is one of the featured enterprises in the film. Some of you have met Grady at some of the poultry auctions.

Carah, have you thought about having a cusom yard sign made? Al told us about vistaprint.com and we used them for business cards, but they also make yard signs and banners and all sorts of other things. I get an email from them a couple of times a week offering free products or reduced prices. We got some free t-shirts and banners & stuff just recently. If you, or anyone else is interested, send me a pm with your email address & they'll forward the same offers to whoever I recommend. They aren't an American business though. The box I got this week had a Canadian return address.

The first time we went up there all of the dogs just kept an eye on us with a couple of them moving to a better vantage point. You knew you were being watched.

this time all of the adults came running up to the truck and acted so glad to see us again. This is one of the few breeds that I have come across that the description of the breed really matched them.

Evening everyone,

What a blustry day? although most of mine was spent indoors up town with appointments and clothes shopping for our special friend living with us... Have I mentioned how much I love shopping at GOODWILL... cant beat the prices especially with growing children....

Hubby is putting together the chicken run door

what a sweet tart he is... I love him

we are hoping to make Blanchard maybe tomorrow? but its hard to say so much going on before Jason heads out for 2 weeks....

The Heartland Flyer has a nice train ride! I think it ends up closer to Ft. Worth than Dallas though, doesn't it? It's been a few years since I rode it. So much better than riding in an airplane. I'm not sure if security is good enough for a young girl to ride alone, but maybe?

Hi Ya'll,

Came home today & went out into the coop to gather eggs, there in the middle of the coop laid my 9 month old, big, RIR rooster. I looked him over real good, no bite marks, no blood, nothing, just dead as a door knob. Everyone else is well and accounted for, no hens or others hurt or missing.

Went back out just now and stood in the coop just to look around and see if I could find anything at all that could have caused this, I see nothing. The only thing I did see is that our two guinea cocks are pretty agressive toward the chickens, they'll peck'um & chase'um a little. Other than that, nothing.

Has anyone known guineas to kill a big ol RIR rooster?

Once a guinea got into the Barnevelder pen (followed me in when I was feeding and watering) and throttled two hens and a rooster before I could catch her. Didn't kill them, but left alone I think she would have.
