Matt, that is absolutely fantastic that you will be recording and photographing our event! See you tomorrow.

Well, everyone, I'm off for the night. I hope to see you all soon, and if anything comes up I have Al's phone number, and I'm sure some of you have mine

I've got everything loaded except for the birds - locked them up in their hutch for the night and I hope they get up early enough to get a drink and a bite before I put them in their cardboard box "ghetto" crates! Safe travels to everyone heading out early in the morning - that might be me behind or in front of you if you're coming from the Tulsa area!

We just finished loading the car except birds....

I'm bringing a pretty good white silkie (she's a silver white to boot) and a pretty good blue, though she's on the darker side. I'm also bringing a blue showgirl who has a really pretty light colored body. Don't especially want to give her up, as I have none other with that color, but I just have toooooo many. Mixing showgirl silkies with regular silkies will result in mostly silkies. And they won't be carrying the naked neck gene, because it is dominant and WILL show up if it's there.

Betsy - you have such beautiful birds! If I didn't abhor broody chickens so much, I'd be knocking on your door. By the way - are Showgirls broody like Silkies?

They're pretty broody, but I've not yet had one brood an empty nest, so I'd guess not quite as broody.

Hi! I am Kathryn's daughter in law. She cannot get into her account on the forum< so I am writing for her.
She is having some mild health issues and has been told by her doctor that she cannot travel to POOH this weekend.
She is really upset about this, but there isn't much she can do.

We all definitely plan to be there next time- in the Fall.
Carla, and Sooner- please call her at her house (918) 868-3716. She is eating dinner with us, but will be there later this evening.

Thanks to everyone-
Have fun at POOH!

PS- I have the incubator and hatcher at my house, and the baby turkey chicks are hatching right and left. I have even played vet and tied one with splayed legs. He/She is up and getting into mischief with the others now. We are having fun watching the babies hatch.

I know she had some health problems last fall also and has been working hard at an outside job to make her dream of raising heritage turkeys a reality. Glad you are able to help her with the hatching and brooding. There is nothing quite like watching poultry hatch out of their eggs.

Bring my daughter in law on board with this turkey operation was a very smart idea.
She came up with a candler yesterday.
She took two clay pots the heavy ones set one down the way you put planets in it. Then set the metal housing for the chicks heat lamp upside down in the first pot. That put the light blub setting straight up then she took the second pot and put on top of the first pot lip side on top of the light housing and bottom pot.. That way the two wides parts of the pot were on top of each other. That put the drain hole for the top pot on top. A turkey egg sets right in that hole. Made a great candler. Doesn't get to hot. We thinking of painting the inside black and drilling a hole in the side to put a light socket in.
