Donnie,
I can't see the markings on your snake, but found one about that size in my chicken brooder yesterday. A few years ago, I would have done as you did and permanantly relocated it away from the chickens. I have changed my mind however over the years and decided that bull snakes or rat snakes keep my mice population down - which is one reason they choose a location - so even though there were bumps that were former chicks inside the snake I found yesterday, I just relocated it to a barn where there are no chicks and probably some mice because of all the rabbit food that falls under the cages.
I have come a LONG WAY since the time 23 years ago when I told a college age son that he could NOT keep a snake in his room. That it was called the "Golden Rule - he who has the gold makes the rules" and there would be no snakes under the same roof where I was helping pay the bills and I really didn't care if he wanted some exotic golden boa. . . . and no, I did not want to touch it to see that it wasn't slimey or gross.

What is on your menu for Mother's Day?
Has your hand stopped throbbing and did you manage to pilot your 4x8 sheets of plywood to the roof without becoming airborn along with the plywood?

I will. Carl is doing the cooking, I am cleaning. We are gathering our kids, Carl's sister ( who I enjoy being around), and Carl's mom ( who i dont ejoy being around but understand that she should come). My mom is in Vegas right now. My sister is bring her son over this morning so her and her husband can go out with some friends. And then late afternoon we are headed to Blanchard. It is going to be a long, but enjoyable day.

Morning Marybeth....... Haven't decided what's up for Mom's day I will let her choose which way she wants to spend it and we will just make it happen. The hand is doing real good, and yes the wind yesterday did play some havoc but no big deal and we did get it done without further incident LOL, looks great too. Going to set more eggs today I have some Pure white standard Cornish that I have some eggs I am excited about hatching, hope I have a better hatch than last time but these are my own eggs so I am more confident on better hatch ratio's.
I candled my POOPS hatch. I've got a lot of eggs developing. The peeps from POOPS are thriving too! When I opened the barn this morning, I let in a lot of cold air, and the little ones told me to "Shut that door!"
Donnie - I think that snake is bigger than the one that got caught in the electric fencing at our place.
P&B - I envy you your ability to prioritize. After last summer's episode with a big bull snake taking a chunk out of my leg, I don't think I could have been so gracious when finding one with a belly full of chicks.
Good morning everyone....the weather is beautiful. What a good work day. I can't stand to read all these post about finding snakes. I would have a run away if I saw one in the hen house or around it. I absolutely hate snakes in any size, shape or form. I don't care if the darn thing ate a ton of mice....I'd rather get 10 cats and let them do the work. LOL Please just keep those snakes in your part of the state....or send them to Teach.
This week has been so busy I've barely had time to lurk. We met with a contractor on building our house. Just waiting to see what the cost estimate will be and see if we want to go that route. He brought us a house plan that was so close to the one that I had drawn up. I loved his better and surely am praying that this will be a go. We just don't want to be in so much debt on a house that we have to stand in line at Walmart and be a door greeter to make our house payment when I'm 90. LOL

Maribeth I am extremely proud of you about just moving the serpent rather than killing it.
No, I don't keep snakes in the house because Peaches freaks when she sees one. I've got a lot of work to do on that matter.
