Here is the newest addition to our farmyard. She is a 3 month old wire-hair terrier that loves cookies and M&Ms.

She doesn't have a name as of yet, any suggestions?

A bull snake BIT YOU!

Here I have been thinking that since they are non poisonous that as long as I held the snake with one hand behind its head and the tail in the other hand, there would be absolutely no danger (although I have since discovered the nasty odor of their poo

)

I may have to go back to getting heavy gloves on before picking one up and treat them with more respect. I had no idea they would try and bite a person.

I have been bitten by rat snakes. They can give a painful bite and leave a nice mark.
P&B you are right that if you hold them behind the head they can't bite you.
Its getting hold of them behind the head that is the tricky part.
When I got bit by the last rat snake I was acting like Steve Irwin and holding it by the tail.
He was better at it than I am because I got nailed.
I haven't found any snakes in the pen yet this year but I did find a snake skin.

Ok back to the trenches.

the only problem i see with it, is any hole or weak area the coons can gets through- i'm just ultra sensitive bout coons... otherwise, you got me wanting to make one like it for my ducks! i think i'm gonna go scrounge around and see if we have supplies to do it!

I tried to make the spacing small. You think I should go back and push them together so there arent any slats?

Originally I had the spacings higher up rather then lower and dh said I should make them lower so the rain would roll down and not fall through the slats and get the birds wet.

I've been bitten about 30-35 times over the years picking up aggessive snakes. I think the worst bite is from a water mocasin.
Their mouths are so nasty. Hurts like h3ll too. Rat snake bites are bad because of the bacteria they carry.

Beautiful weather over here today. Waiting
for lightening to strike me to get me up
and going.........and not a cloud in the sky.

Got the guys moving about 100 chicks out
to the brooder room....will enjoy a quiet
livingroom for about 30 minutes. Then,
they'll unload the incubator......again....
About ready to shut down on chickens
and start the quail and "get er done",
and go fishing !!!!

Pa-Pa and I have 12 years in today....LOL
And, they said it wouldn't last. Of course,
it can't hurt that we're so old we don't
even remember what Plan B was.....

Hope all of you have a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY !

Thanks Sooner, "Patches" it is. Maybe Montana will learn to say it correctly.

Montana is super cute. At POOPS he came up to me and was started talking - very seriously - about something. He talked for a long time. I admit that I don't understand 3 Year Old, so I have no idea what he was telling me, but I sure like him! Cute pup, too!

He is so much like his Mother in attitude but looks just like me.

Sometimes we can't get him to shut-up and go to sleep.

It seems he likes to talk more when it is bedtime than any other time.
