Glad to see your internet is up and running again.
You are correct that we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil if we were willing to eat more locally grown food instead of importing so much. The tomatoes I got from David at Mary's yesterday, the ones his brother grew in East Texas, are wonderfully flavored. Local vegetables taste much better than things raised in another country and brought in by truck or air.

i actually like my black sex links .... my bsl are from a welsummer roo over barred rock hens and they lay a nice dark brown egg , which i have found is darker than some peoples maran eggs i have purchased from the bst section here on byc , me tho personally i would rather buy from someone i know or cant talk with personally , ex.. poops and other auctions , i will try my best to save up the courage and hold out on getting certain birds til next poops or meet up with you all , i know im on the look out for some cubalaya now for Dustin and i wouldnt mind a pair myself , if i would have known that he would like them so much i would have bought some from mike at poops cause the 7th was his bday ... so im going to hope to get him a pair by christmas and i want to also find a big nice cage or make one for him so he can keep them in his room

mike i hope you see this ... keep me in mind i would like to get two pair . idk if the coloring is the same as a game , but i would like a gray and bbr pair , what other colors are there , i may change mind on what color i actually want to get , or do one color and get a quad or something , i already have dustin his own incubator , going to pick up a turner for him and then that way he is started on his addiction , the poor boy lives with me and had a rough life with his parents and doesnt have any ambition in life or goals and i have been working with him the last two years that he has lived with me , im doing good on keeping him in high school , getting him to graduate is the first step , im hoping to get him into college too , instead of being a truck driver im trying to get him to get an education first then go be a truck driver if he wants or even welding school since he can weld , he is an auctionier already so if we need one at poops next time we got one k guys lol so al can have a break ....

Donnie,
I sent you a PM with Michael Daugherty's phone number, so you could let him know what you are looking for.

It is good that you are encouraging Dustin to finish high school before making a career choice. Dustin seems so shy, I bet being an auctioneer brings him our of his shell for awhile.

well he is shy but he tends to warm up , and everyone at poops being so nice and all made him feel comfortable , both his mom and dad are bad with alcohol and drugs and in and out of jail and when he was little he lost his sister in a house fire she was older than him but his older brother got him out in time and couldnt get their sister out and his mom was drunk and so he has had a really rough life .... and it took forever to be able to get him to sleep in a room alone or by a window , he was outside watching the house in flames and knowing his sister was in there , sad sad deal so he is my cousin but more like a little brother , and for the auctioniering he grew up in it , my dad , his dad, our uncles and such are all auctioniers , so its kinda natural and a show off thing in a way lol

im just tryin to help him to not make the same mistakes myself and others have made and to keep in on track to make life a little bit easier for him in the long run and trying to keep it fun and interresting to him so he doesnt give up and be a bum , like alot of folks in the family , im the second grand kid to graduate high school and will be the first in the family to graduate college , and im also the black sheep of the family as well so go figure on that one lol .... so i figure if i can show him i can do it , then he should be able to as well as long as he applies himself , their is time for fun and a time for work , the teaching of responsibility is a job man i know what my mother went thru now raising me alone lol ..... and yes im one of the kids who told their parents they were right lol

Donnie,
Just remember that the best thing you can do for Dustin is to set a good example. Most people are unable to learn from the mistakes of others. We make bad decisions ourselves because we think that WE can do the same thing with a different result

Best of luck to you. It sounds like you are setting the bar a bit higher for the rest of the family because of your desire to finish an education and live your life differently than some of the others in your family. Sometimes, marching to a different drummer than the rest of the family is a very good thing.

lol yeah i hear ya there ...

i wasnt going to walk at graduation since im 28 and older than some there , and then i remembered my grandparents and wanting to see all the grandkids doing ok , so now im going to walk so my grandparents can be there and watch since both of them are in bad health and have been for sometime now , my grandfathers has heart problems and emphazemia (idk the spelling) and my grandmother has been fighting cancer for well over 25yrs , she has had every organ they can remove removed, both breasts removed at the sametime, skin cancer, lupus , diabeties, degenerative bone diease , and idk what all else and she is still a kicking and that is what scares me the most is her watching me turn my own life around and all , and then something happen to her , that will tear me to pieces so bad , i have been their with her she has 12 doctors and then one doctor who over sees the other 12 she goes to md anderson in houston alot plus sees several specialists that fly in local for her , she is on so many meds its not even funny , and so much pain killers like moraphine and such , she is on so much of it they cant even give her anymore she has pills and patches along with all the rest of her medications ... i love her to pieces tho she is a fighter , she grew up here locally and was around when the sequoyah fuels incident happened years ago ... and alot of others her age as well have all passed from cancer and so we are thinking it may be related but their is nothing you can do about that so we all just try and make the best of a bad situation ...

I am always burning the midnight oil! I've done it since childhood. Can't help it, I'm just like that!
I sure had fun at Poops, I hoped cleaning up showed our commitment to the success of the Meet. I have had chickens my whole life, off and on, showed in 4-H as a kid, 50 years ago! Then I showed and bred a few Silkies about 13-15 years ago. I had some nice ones. My busness kept me too busy to be able to continue. I have always known I would go back to playing with those chickens again. Really, I want to go back to showing Silkies. I enjoy the grooming a lot. I spoke with Betsy about getting a nice one to start. I bought a couple at the Poops just to have some! I got 6 babies, four Partridge and 2 Blues at the auction, and a white pullet from Mike to play with for now. I know nothing about the babies family. I don't know who they came from, Roy I think, but I'm not sure. They are vey cute and sweet. I also have five hens I raised from last Oct. I have just gotten my first eggs from them in the last few weeks. 2 white rocks and 3 Australorps.
I just hope the zoning ordinance will fly, we have the City Council meeting May 18th, I'll be out of town! I feel awful, I wanted to go sooooo bad! I'll post on our BYC list about it and on the Laws and Ordinances to hopefully recruit faces!
I've gotta get bedded down, I hope you had a great Mothers Day!

Just a quick ninja post to let ya'll know we're still alive. It has been very busy around here. I have chicks and quail hatching like crazy. I finally got a Serama to hatch, but I don't think it is going to make it. There is another that has been pipped since last night. I hope it does better. We are moving along on the house pretty good. We hung drywall all weekend. I got to tape and mud while the guys did the heavy lifting. My shoulder is doing a lot better, but it still hurts sometimes and I still can't sleep without the meds because of the pain. Well it is time for me to head to work. I hope everyone has a great day. I probably won't be able to get back on for a whilie. It is looking to be a very busy week. I am starting back on the 14+ hour shifts. TTYL.
