Thanks for taking a picture of the second trailer of straw. I like your description of the co-ordination of the straw purchase last night. Everyone got straw at a fair price, including the bidders who were bidding it up because they only needed one or two bales

we got a few sprinkles this evening - just enough to make spots in the dust on the vehicles, but it did drop the temperature about 4 degrees

This morning I was surprised to see a turkey hen sitting on a nest of duck eggs that had just hatched. I never saw her on that nest prior to today, there has been a duck on the nest on and off for awhile. Anyway, she had three yellow ducklings, which I took and put with the mama duck that is in a cage with all the ducklings that she hatched, that hatched in the incubator last week and the newly hatched muscovies I got last week. Later, I saw the turkey hen walking back and forth along the cage, looking at the ducklings. I wouldn't have thought the turkey hen was bonded to the ducks since she couldn't have sat on the nest but for a few days, but she seemed to recognize them.

Another turkey hen must have hatched her poults, because she has moved away from her original nest. I can't get close enough to her to see if she has poults beneath her, but if she does then she will be parading them around in a few days.

evening guys!! the rain went just north....

had one of those days- emmi the LB had her neck reinjured, i guess the roo was a little to romantic, and ripped that old cut open, so she and grace, her buddy are isolated again- i am thinking this is going to be a constant problem for her, so we thought we set up a girls run and coop, and put them with the cochin girls, since roo will have 12 girls, so that should work? by the way, Jewel the rehab wynadotte is now integrated with the teens-

and a happy little thing-

spent the day with the grandkids, daughter is close to delivery of her twins and was overdoing it, so we get home from tulsa and i can't find nimi the duccle, looked everywhere, the dog pen under their coop etc, threw treats in there, about 15 minutes later she comes meandering up from under the coop, not sure where she was- silly thing-

so now to catch up with you all have been up to...

hey donnie! How are the roos doing??

robin they are doing great thanks again .. cant wait to hatch some chicks from them, from what chicks i have already hatched and the ones to come i will be overrun with silkies before long , i will be getting two more black silkie hens sunday as well hopefully if things go right and i dont have to work

Wow it has really been slow on the board today. Man less then three pages in a day, everyone must be bustin their hump like me or being smart and relaxing on this fine Sunday.

Opened the side of the coop so they can get good airflow in there, installed a make-shift (cause everything I make is make shift) awning to when it rains it wont blow right into the coop, built a porch covering over the pop door so when it rains it does not flood in the door. The porch is makeshift as well, just a piece of corregated tin I pounded into the shape I wanted and wired to the outer walls of the coop. Chickens actually seemed to like it. Really I think they are impressed I spent so much time out there with them. Later in the week I am going to expand the chicken yard and hopefully Uli will help me get the other coop put up. I already bought a vent for the roof of it and am going to Habitats for Humanities to purchase a couple of windows to install. It will be nicer then the old coop but I am still having difficulty getting what I need for the floors.

That reminds me, I am looking for plastic shipping pallets. This is what I want to use for the coop floors since it will not rot and can be cleaned and santitized. I will come get them within a 100 mile radius.

Well I have a ton of stuff to get done tomorrow. Everyone have a good night and a wonderful day tomorrow.

Evening folks. Brenda and I went and saw the movie Knight and Day. Itwas pretty good. Came home and locked the pigeons up after their first fly day in ages. Also caught some chicks I had left in with the bigger ones in the loft after I took their momma away. Its supposed to cool down in the eightys next week and I want the littlest one in the brooder to make sure they don't droopy.Looks like I have several comet babys ,sure do like them.
Got the word tonight that an old neighbor(not old in age) has passed. Its always sad to hear that kind of news from home. He was a good man,a longtime dairy farmer. Our prayers go out to his family.

It's been raining quite abit here this evening...luckily we put up all the birds up early because we knew it was coming....

Later this evening after dark, and a slow spot during the rain we went around checking on all the critters and these were on the ramp going into the quail house. (the way the door is made, no chance of them getting in)

Thanks for the compliments! I have to give credit tho to my BYC friends who have been enablers...wife is trying the 'bator, so we'll see how that works out.

...my neighbors around here mentioned that they were surprised that their haven't been as many snakes in this area as years past. We only moved in october of last year...so first summer here we didn't know what to expect. I sure didn't expect to see those snakes in the run tonight.
