Pekin Ducks for Sale

These Pekin Ducks are from my own birds that won Champion Waterfowl once and Reserve Waterfowl twice during this past Fall's poultry shows. They are also from very healthy and fertile stock, many of my hatches this year were 100% (the number of eggs I set was the same as the number of ducklings that hatched)!
These are pick-up-only in Calera, OK.

One drake that is fourteen months old: $10
one drake and three hens that are four months old: $10 for the drake, $12 for the hens
one tufted hen that is three months old: $10
ten un-sexed ducks that are seven weeks old (two of which are tufted): $7 each

Another thing I want to add is that even though most of the ducks are four months old or younger, they are Big! I mistake the four-month-old ones for the fourteen-month-old parents all the time! And even the youngest (seven-week-old) ones have most of their adult feathers in already.

I don't especially like surprises when it comes to poultry, so I am not ordering any - thank you very much

Of course, my decision not to order was helped by the order that I placed for blue and chocolate runner ducks and turken pullets just yesterday, from another hatchery.

I think that I figured out how to set the primary and backup thermostat wafers on the sportsman, so I put the rest of the eggs I bought from Carla at Blanchard into the incubator and they look a little lonesome. I am going to try and resist adding very many more until after I have a successful hatch. Of course, eggs from MY hens are relatively free so maybe I will add some Malay/Saipan cross eggs to keep the others company.

Do you think they will have a sale on Monday since it is a holiday? (I know, the 4th of July is on Sunday, but the 5th is a State holiday.) Where is the sale in Lexington and is it just poultry or other things as well (including "good" junk)?

They don't normally cancel a sale for a holiday, but I can try to find out for sure if they are having it.

I think the road it is on is called flat armadillo rd and yes it is close to 96th they put out signs that say auction on the day of the auction.

They do sell other things sometimes good junk, sometimes not so good.
Its in a barn that i think used to be used for their auctions when they sold sheep and goats as well.

Maribeth - They have an auction every Monday of the month so long as there are no tornadoes or anything hitting that area. I can see if they are having one this Monday and PM you later. It is pretty easy to find. I dont know the name of the road it is on but I can give you the guy's number for directions or an address if you like? We take HWY 9 to 120th and turn west when it deadends.

The way I set them is to set the back-up first. Take the front thermostat and turn the handle counter clockwise at least three full turns. This will allow the bator to run all the time and then set the rear thermostat to kick off at 101 deg. once you have the bator at 101 then you set the front thermostat to kick off at 99.5.

If you go to check on your bator and it is running at 101 then you know the wafer or electronic unit is out on the front thermostat.

Les, that is how I ended up doing it - figured it out by accident of course - but I think that is what I have. Of course, the two thermometers inside the incubator don't read the same, so I tuned it so one reads 100 when the back up wafer is in charge and the other one reads 101. The front wafer is set so that the other thermometer reads 100 degrees when it goes off and the one reads 99 when the front wafer goes off.


When I first saw that you had posted, I thought you were commenting on my order of turken poults. I have decided to try a laying flock of them since you recommend them so highly as a year round flock capable of consistently laying large brown eggs.

Doc and Renee my heart goes out to you both. I have been a soldiers wife during war and know how bad it sucks, scary it can be and down right frustrating. Just know we are here for you both. May bright blessings and good fortune smile on you all.

We got back this afternoon from our mini holiday at Turner Falls. It was so much fun! After summer school is out I think we are planning another trip somewhere but alot will depend on if Uli can get any more time off. It seems like a cruel joke when a company gives you vacation time but never lets you take it. Got to love American businesses. In October we are going to New Mexico to the balloon festival. I am really looking forward to that. I will get to go on a balloon ride.

Oh, I came home to a cute baby chick who had just hatch under the pair of broody hens coop sitting on a nest. Lets just say with the chickens being on lock-down for two days and me taking the baby away from those hens, my flock is not happy with me. I think I heard mumblings of mutiny and/or sending scouts out to find a better chicken lady.

Fortunely tomorrow their little chicken brains will not remember and after a round of fruit newtons I will once again be "The Chicken Lady".
