Maybe you should put the tomahawk down before you approach it, Sooner.

Were you able to treat its head with anything yet? I hope it gets better, poor thing.

We got a little bit of lightning last night, but no rain.

City that wasn't a tomahawk!!! LOL!

I have put Neosporin on it. It looks grusome to me & it is alert & still moving about in the cage......I am hoping that it will start eating more as the shock has worn off.

I think it sprinkled but nothing to write home about. I would of liked the rain to help flatten out the places we pulled the tree's.

Good Morning Everyone

Do any of you guys just ever wake up one day and really regret something certain that you litterally had set in concrete?

Then you wonder how ever will you tell your husband...

Well I did that certain something and every day since then I shoot myself with regret... For those of us that have been out to our place know we have a little bit of property that I dub the Welded Egg Farmstead on Four Little Acres. For the past several months I have looked at my property layout and see how much we are NOT utilizing the lay of the land properly to our advantage...

For starters... Our 3 horses(lawn Ornaments) have 99% of the property....

Second.... We have compacted our back yard with one to many "big things" that we have shrunk the space we have back there...

I would like a clothes line(have the materials but not the "privacy space") but because the spot where we could have it is being utilized by our hillbilly built wood shed

* Our Garden which originally was 15* 15 (previous home owners) grew to a 30*30 which is still to small for the food we normally consume and I cant make it bigger because of......

* THE COOP (yep the big main thing to my regret that is set in concrete.. ha ha) Our COOP and Pens take up a good portion of the back part of the yard just behind the garden and directly in front of the fence from the horses area..

With all this regret of placing these big things in the areas that they are in( Sure they seemed good at the time) is that it doesnt allow us to utilize the 4 acres as good as I know we can make it especially since our goal is self reliance.

So whats a whiner to do

....

But mention the regret to ones hubby and get his reaction...

actually I think it was more of this
hmm.png
.. I think it was the approach and the sincere regret that I have that allowed him to be more sympathetic... So much so he got his shoes on and told me to go out side with him and we walked to back pasture and he said the following..

Here is as far back we could do the Coop other wise we run into flooding

I dont want to build a new coop we could hoist the coop up and cut the stilts(which are on concrete
wink.png
and lower it on the flat bed and move it and make it bigger by building off of it. I also dont want it "lifted" to high off the ground and would prefer we put it on concrete padding or something of the sort.

* The horses have to much area which they dont need if we can fence the pasture right and utilized pasture rotation.(something I added)

* The Garden can be moved and expanded to where the Coop is located now after we get it moved to its other location

* The Wood Shed will be torn down and moved else where

* Clothes line can be put in its place that keeps it private from the whole world to see but yet get the sun

* I am putting in for leave for 14 days but hope to get more since I have to many days that will hopefully happen middle September... by then it will be cooling off and we can work on the property.... Anything else?

I was blown away at how calm he was about it all... but I think he was seeing what I was seeing after I pointed it out to him... especially when in our future we would like to have a few pigs... and a steer or two to raise for meat and we cant do that if we are not doing our place justice....

Lord willing come fall we may be doing just that as above... and

ya know what Expanding a COOP means right?! MORE CHICKENS... or turkeys, or ducks...
droolin.gif
hmmmm better not push the amount of animals just yet.... right?

Barns I am having a rough time following this morning (got up late & no coffee with a headache coming on) but your plan sounds good & you also have to remember you didn't have a map when you started out & this is all a learning experiance, once you get it done you will be great!

Monty! Whats the day after that?

Morning Everyone!

Barnswallow, your plan sounds great. You and Jason have a plan and are ready to impliment it. I totally understand wanting to make sure the place is planned out right. Hence my delimma on the coop floor. I actually know where the chicken city is going to go I just need to tear out an old run and get the area cleaned up before that happens. I only have 2 1/2 acres and am only using 1/4 of it. The people I bought it from really did not take care of it so it needs a lot of love and my free time is really limited.

Today I am got cleaning in the house and outside to do but started out kinda late this morning. Oh well I will work till it is too hot then come in and work. Speaking of better get to it. Have a great day everybody.

Oh and day after tomorrow is Saturday right????

Morning everyone my daily report is, I woke up fed the animals all are doing well as of now. My daughter mari has tormented and tortured the poor rabbits to the point they hate humans. The baby rabbit has magically disappeared and she suggest she has no idea what happened. I love my little girl with all my heart but she just never listens to old dad. (cause I don't know anything about pets and animals in her world she does) for those that don't know mis mac is 6 years old. my guess is she let it go outside and the dog claimed it as his reward for guarding the flock or perhaps it is now living with all the wild rabbits that the dog dont bother here. ( I wont let him hunt my cotton tails cause they taste so good and I have alot that have homed thereselves right here in my yard. (front and back)
Its gonna be another long day here. My girls still refuse to give me any eggs, the more they refuse the more they strt looking like a good smoked or bbq chicken perhaps I should send a messenger pigeon to tell them this. My 1 and a half month old RiRs theres about 75 of them decided my yard i built for them wasn't big enough and the grass is greener on the other side. (in my garden where there wrecking havoc on my crops) I could cut there flight feathers but there basically just jumping it my fence is a 5 foot fence with a 3 foot roll of chicken wire attached.
The day of the auction I guess no one sprayed the yard down resulting in 1 dead cornish rock cross due to heat stroke it appears. I might be younger but Physically I am very old today I woke up and my neck and back hurt terribly (I have deteriorating disks in both) My shoulder is throbbing with pain. (had rotor cuff operation) So much work to do and yet I refuse to take any man made medicine and cant seem to find my indian bud for some tea or herbs. So guess I got to suck it up as usual and get busy.
I wish I could find someone to share life with who actually appreciated me for what I do and wasnt to stuck up to help. Guess I am asking for too much now. perhaps one day there will be someone to share my dreams and joys with. Someone who will jump in the deere when I need to work ground and terraces but got so much other things going on. eh guess I better stop rambling before i get all emotional on you guys. I have the good ol tough guy image to uphold. Love you guys really nice to finally have something to call a family I hope your days go by wondefully and bring you all much joy and happiness God bless everyone.

MMPoultry - hang in there - I will tell you what I tell everyone else. Be sure that you are eating healthy, getting sufficient sleep and staying well hydrated. All of those things are important because they affect our outlook on life. And in the meantime, swallow the pride and take some aspirin if your stomach can tolerated it and some Tylenol if that is better for you. Pain affects your mental outlook, puts uneccesarry stress on your heart and can raise your blood pressure. Take care of yourself. This too, shall pass.

Barnswallow, congratulations on calmly assessing your homestead plans and being willing to do the extra work to redo things now, rather than hate the way they are for the next umpteen years. You will be glad when it is all redone to your satisfaction and the benefits of the better utilization of the space will bless you.
