I know it has been days since I posted this, but thanks for the ideas! I like the very last one with the avian water nipples the best! I think we will give it a shot since it will be so inexpensive!

I called Stimpy's wife, Lou, this morning for an update. Stimp is still in SICU, still has infection from his perforated bowel, is still on the ventilator and still critically ill. Please continue to pray for him and Lou. Stimp is caught in that vicious cycle where he is aggitated and his blood pressure increases when they reduce his pain medication, but as long as he is on so much pain medication - it is going to be difficult to get him off the respirator because he doesn't breath deeply enough. Prayers, please.

question on antibiotics, with Cubans cockeral- should he be on a broad spectrum antibiotic- what he is on now is LY50, i have on hand the usual stuff, tylan, duramycin, corvid, penecillin - i don't want him to be mistreated- he seems a bit warm today, but eating and drinking well..

Well, always a day late, but this is the first time I've had to catch up on here. I just want to say I really enjoyed my time visiting at Blanchard on Sat. Also, I got some real bargains. I was shopping for cages and I got 5 really nice ones...the commercial guinea pig/rabbit kind with the "deep dish" plastic bottom...2 of them big ones and 3 more even bigger. I also bought 2 small wooden nest boxes. I got all that for $38.50. I've already got most of it in use. Had a good time.

Afternoon Everyone,

I finally found my pattern for a No-Sew Hen Apron. You'll need medium to heavy fabric, like cotton duck or denim. Some people use fleece, which doesn't run when you cut it, and it's spongy and comfy for the hen. Even an old towel will do, if it doesn't have really loopy loops that the rooster will catch his toenails in. Fold you fabric in half first, and place your pattern along the fold. The fold is the center, back of the apron. I put the measurements on the image if anyone wants to try it out. If you want to be sure of a good fit, make your pattern and cut out an apron from an old feed bag. Try the feed-bag apron on the hen, adjust the wing holes or length as needed, and then use fabric for the apron the hen will actually wear. Some of my hens prefer these, probably because they don't have elastic under their wings.

Afrternoo folks from Tennessee! We made it home about 3 yesterday. Did a really fast trip home,only took 8 1/2 hrs. Going out took 10!
Got to see most of family. Was disapointed I didn't get to make any sales or swaps but still enjoyed being back home. Surprisingly eastern part of the state is a lot greener than it is here!
Separated some of the chicks last night. Trying to get the bigger ones away from the smaller ones and culling out the roos as they develope. No use keeping them any longer than necessary. Also set another hen last night.
I put T Rex RoHo the turken roo I got from Mr.Bill with a couple of hens with chicks. Its funny,he isn't old enough to breed the hens yet but he is doing a real good job being a father to the chicks. Thats the nn comming out in him. He herds them around and watches over them real good!
I picked 6 quarts of berries last night. Pulled up the rest of the corn this morning and picked a bunch of tomatoes for canning. Also picked a bunch of okra. Wish I knew how to freeze it. Mine never comes out good after freezeing. Any ideals.
Its terribly hot and humid so I am in for the rest of the day. We are waiting on the hurricane rains to finally make it to us. We really need it just hope its slow and gentle.

Barnswollow I envy your 4 acres. I sure wish I had at least 1 more acre. I want mini donkeys and pigs so bad.

Prayers for Mr. Stimp,I was hoping he had made it off that ventilator by now. The longer he's on it the worse it can be to get off of.

and here are some shots of the cockerals leg- the first was before meds this morning, looked infected to me so put some medicine i have used for years to draw infection out- called ichthamol salve- yes its black...have seen it pull splinters out, anyway, have just re splinted it will check again an a few hours

Buckguy is right that's what most folks call a chicken snake, Surprised you caught him active in the day time in this weather they are usually prowling around at night while it's cooler, Did you get your egg back?

What causes eggs to have odd shapes and wrinkles, lines and weak areas on them?? I have one hen that every egg she lays is like that she rarely lays one that seems normal.

Saw a lizzard running across the driveway with a stick in it's mouth I was wondering what that was about when all of a sudden it stabbed it in the ground and cilmed on the backside of it for shade

Okay maybe I didn't actually didn't see either of those things but I do have some odd eggs I need to figure out how to fix LOL
