Hay Hay all you Okies. woo hoo I'm getting my new coop built soon. I'll have 3 big coops total and then the hoop coop, tractor and broody pen.
I'm wanting to get a rare breed to start raising.
I'm looking at Welsummers, I like them.
But my trouble is I have that need to have more .

Mawchickkidie its looking good. Question were do we get the blood test done and do you know what it cost?

Feed cost went up again laying feed is $11.25 for 50lbs.

kaacres i sure hope that works, who in their right mind would steal someones guineas:eek::thun:rant:tonguen that just makes me mad, that someone would do that. I would went over there and blew my top. Do you have your birds banded or marked some how? All mine are mark 2 ways I band them all( guineas all have 2 bands, one on each leg) and then I tatt them under the wings or on the butt just abobe where the tail feathers are I use either initals or a series of dots in a pattern. We started this because my hubby had a really expensive bird stolen from a gamebird show ( i think it cost him bout $650.00) and the cage even had a lock on it some how with everyone walking round in plain sight they cut the lock and tried to make off with the bird, if it wouldn't have been for the way he wraps the birds spurs in pink and orange vet wrap to keep the bird from spuring him or the judges and that tatt that person would have gotten away with it. The way he got caught was DH was walking back down the hall to the main area and the guy walked right past him with the bird in plain sight and DH saw the wraps and stoped the guy and asked where he got the bird, the guy tried to say it was his, and DH told the guy he knew of only one person who wrap spurs like that and the guy then tried to say he bought him form that guy and DH said I don't thinks so because thats my bird and I never sell my birds at a show, only from my home, the guy tried to say I have a sales recpiet, show they took it to the preseadent and sec. of the show and when they asked how DH knew it was his, he told them to check the rump above the top of the tail for a series of tattooed numbers the check his reg. card for the show and sure enough they did and that guy got arrested, kicked out of the show, the club and banned for life from any and all gamebird related functions, and DH sued him and won about $ 400 dollars. So you can never trust anyone.

So if I were you I would have gone over and told them to give them back or youd call the police and sue them. I sure hope they come back. I will keep my fingers crossed, if they don't I will give you my 2 guineas to replace them, I don't really need them anyway, cause they keep pulling the tail-feathers out of my phex roos tail, and chasing all of the younger chicks all the time. They just seem to stay in some sort of trouble.

We just got home from the Cement Auction. A whole lot of roosters for sale there today. Many beautiful roosters sold for as little as $1 each. Hens of course were selling for a good price, unless they were bantams, they usually sold for over $10 each, even if they were mixed breed. I was disappointed in hatching egg sales. My call duck eggs only sold for $5 a dozen. I need to either wait and sell them at Harrah or on ebay, or hatch them myself.

We bought 5 Buff Orpington pullets that are 4 months old that originally from Cackle Hatchery ... paid $11.50 each. I didn't want to pay that much for them ... but Gerald talked me into it. They look healthy, and will be great to put with the one buff rooster we're keeping from the 3 BO roosters bought last week in Harrah. We bought a 9 hole cage and 2 nesting boxes too ... so definitely spent more money than intended, but gosh, we would have spent a lot to go out to a dinner and a movie & then we wouldn't have had anything cool to show for it!

Countyroad, THANKS FOR THE 2 chickies! They're gorgeous! and now in the brooder with some chicks & turkey poults that are up to a week old. They seem fat & happy! If my silkies cooperate, I'll gather some eggs for you. Most of the hens have gone broody, but surely they'll snap out of it and start laying again. As for more b.o. chicks ... I'd like to just get 4-8 more, so just collect a week's worth & see what hatches.

Kaacres, glad to see ya'll again! Thanks for buying some of my chicks! I'm happy you got an incubator. I sure hope it works ... if it doesn't heat up or the temp is unstable, you can always buy a new thermostat wafer at most feed stores or for sure at Atwoods. Make sure you get a good thermometer to make sure you get the temperature just right. I wish you the best of luck at getting your 2 guineas back home.

Graceful, I discussed it with Gerald about the Blue Auction, and he wants to take off work and go to the next one. Is it this coming Tuesday night? I checked on the internet for hotels and there sure aren't many vacancies around there ... must be too many Texans on vacation & frequenting that big fancy casino. Myself, I'd much rather gamble on winning at a poultry auction! I clicked on the link of the sausage plant, and see that it's about a 2 hour drive for us. I think we could easily drive to it and even come home afterward. We're used to staying up until 3 am anyway, since we work second shift.

Okie16, that's a really good looking juvenile chick pen that you built there ... I need something like that too!

Who all went to Harrah auction? I know poultry&bees went. I wish we had gone there too. Any great deals in Harrah today?

There were a lot of hatching eggs tonight at Harrah. The most expensive ones, Siapan Jungle Fowl, went for $14/doz. A friend went with me and she is going to try and hatch 6 of them and I will try and hatch 6 of them and see if we can get her another hen. I really like the Siapan Jungle Fowl as mothers. They are very protective of their chicks.

I bought about 13 dozen hatching eggs, mostly cuckoo marans from 2 different breeders, and some varieties I wasn't looking for, but they were selling for less than $4 per doz. (the cuckoo marans went for about $6.50 per dozen.) I felt badly that some of the varieties of hatching eggs sold for less than $2.00 per dozen - which is what the "eggs to eat" sold for.

There were a few hens, a few trios and mostly roosters. Someone more experienced than myself indicated it was one of the lowest offerings at the auction in awhile. We were finished by about 8:00.

My grandson was dying to bring home some baby chicks and I bought some small coternix quail, so we had to find an appropriate cage with a light bulb when we got home. I don't like to mix new birds with my birds until I have had them a week or so.

There were about one dozen turkey mix eggs, a few quail eggs and on group of guinea eggs. I hope there are more quail and guinea eggs the next time I attend. I was disappointed (and relieved) that there weren't any rabbits and very few goats.

I had a great time and my girlfriend and possibly husband and I will go again - but next time we won't take the wriggly 4 year old grandson.

Hi Everyone!

Hey! OKCarla, you folks were sitting right in front of us at the auction - wish we had known it was you! The only reason I know is, I knew what you had bought:D

What chicks did you sell? I sure thought about buying some of the silkies, but hubby looked at me like I was crazy!

I sure wanted to get that trio of OE, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for them.

We did get to meet CountryRoads - very nice young lady, with the glow of happiness and love about her impending marriage!

We wish you health and happiness.

My hubby met a really nice lady last time and spoke with her about some quart jars she had for sale and she brought them and he bought them to make his homemade salsa YUMMMM!!!

We bought seven nice hens. I had hoped they were B. Australorps, but another really nice man and his wife told us that the BA have lighter colored bottoms of their feet, but these hens are all the same bluish/gray color on their legs and the bottoms of their feet, so they may be J. Giants?

About the sale in Blue...where exactly is this place? I looked on the map and couldn't find it. Unfortunately, we won't be able to make the next Cement auction, as we show horses and plan on making the trip to Tulsa that weekend....will there be an auction on the first Saturday night in May around T-Town?

Sorry....I'm just rambling on! I hope I haven't offended anyone by not knowing their names, but I'll get to know y'all in person some day soon!

I sure enjoy this list! KB;)

Hay all, doing good today.

I need to try to go to one of the auction, were and when is there one close to me.
LeFlore County.

I have 6 young roos I need to sell, they are mix breeds and 9 weeks old. What would be a good price for them to ask? I was thinking $2.50 each.
Maybe put them on a local web page.

Have a good day.
