Hi Ya'll .........
big_smile.png
I be here....... been busy with kids crud.....Kenny is home from base to pick up his new wifey and move her up to Ft Riley...... and show me his new car .......I am so proud of him...
Anyway, Monty I think the feed co-op thing is a great idea...... I can help pick up in my truck too.........starting to look for barrels now....someone just had a bunch on craigslist. I know I could use a break in the feed bill...... so.........who is going to join? I know nothing bout it all. but am will to learn !
Paula said she decided to call you Monty? wondering if she did....
HEY LUVZ............yea, where are ya hon? adjusting to hubby's new job? I found a bit of wire if you still need some !

Okiechick, I may want to do it. I need to check out their current prices to see if it is worth it. Probably still is.
The barrels should have lids. If I remember right, they said it would take seven or eight 55 gallon barrels to hold the feed. They can grind different mixes.
The biggest problem would involve unloading the barrels full of feed.
I don't know if there is a price break for buying more than one ton.
I will check on prices, then if anyone is interested we can set up a list of people and a plan.

I just talked to the mill.
Edited to say: I'm checking my ciphering. Not sure about this new fangled math. Please ignore previous info.
Well, I am not as excited as I was. If I did the math right it would only be a savings of .35 cents per 50 pounds on pellets and 30 cents per 50 pounds on scratch.

Here are the prices if some math whiz wants to cipher on them.
Scratch $306 per ton. $7.95 per bag.

15% laying pellets. $366 per ton and $9.50 per bag.

HERE I AM................ still browse through the posts early in the morning usually, but have a day or 2 ( I hate this weather) off from my growing list of projects............... somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 acre garden the flower beds the memory garden putting the new window in the coop building 3 more breeding pens and this morning I went to lowe's and ordered the flooring for my bathroom redo, like I do not have enough to do already. All my boys were here for spring break and a little extra so we had a house full my grandmother had cataract surgery 2 times over the last month and she lives in Wynnewood had the surgery in OKC so I have spent lots of miles driving lately. But our house is back to normal for a while. Does anyone know where around OKC I can buy the hova 1588 hubbie said I could trade out with the LG if I sold the LG and I have a friend that wants it but I do not to get rid of it before I get another Atwood's in Norman and Chickasa are out or were when I was there. I really must get off here I still have 2 sets of taxes to get done before the 15th and I have not even gotten ours done yet.

Hi luvz............ nice to see you.........you sound busy....can't help you with the bator thing sorry..........don't you just hate tax time........... mine are simple this year.no job no money haha....

Thanks Okie but I don't need another breed I am going nuts trying to figure out what I want to keep now.
Your roo is gorgeous however.
I am not sure the savings on the bulk feed is worth the barrels and the gas.

Not that my math is all that awesome (

), but I came up with the same figures you did

I really don't think it would be worth all the trouble for y'all to start the co-op.

It doen't soud that great to buy the feed by the ton, does it? It's probably worth the 30-35 cents extra per 50 lbs. to get it by the bag. Bags are a whole lot easier to load & unload, too.

Who all is going to the Cement auction this Saturday? If I remember correctly, I think it starts at 5:00 p.m. Last month I saw quite a lot of adult poultry & lots of baby chicks. I wonder what's going to be there this month? I'm thinking of taking some call duck eggs, and maybe some other eggs if I have them. Not too many hatching eggs were there last time. Also, I'd better gather up some young chicks & take them ... maybe some brabanter chicks & silkie chicks & possibly a pair of 1 year old cream brabanters.

Too bad the CHUPPS auction is this weekend, too. Maybe I could go to it next month. I need to plan that one ... it's such a long drive from Tuttle. Oh, and too bad the Blue auction is on weeknights ... that'll be keeping me away since I work weeknights

unless I take some vacation time to go .... hmmm ... I just might do that some day!

Gracefu, Yeah, I'd like to go to that auction. What you described sounds awesome! I don't know if it would be good for me though ... this chicken addiction is beginning to wear on me ... I don't have time to watch & enjoy the chickens ... only feed, water, and clean up after them all then go to work. My cabinet incubator is completely filled with eggs that I've bought, traded for, and from my own chickens. And what's worse ... there's very few birds I'm willing to part with. I'm sure that will change when the chicks grow and I pick out my favorites.

I think Gerald and I could go to the Blue auction on May 6th, if they have one then. We have that day scheduled off. Can you give a description of the place the auction is held? Do they have a contact person & phone number? I can Google a map of the town, but I sure won't know where to go once we get to town.
