Hi you all!

Does anyone know if the Marlow flea market is still the first saturday of the month. That's what it was last year. Last year there were lots of birds there. But you had to get there early, cause some of those people are packing to leave by 11 o'clock!

poultryand bees: Thanks for the chicken sitting offer, but I couldn't because the yard is in a horrible state. I'd have to clean it up and add some fence. I had a couple of chicks when I was in my teens. One got sick and died, but the other went to live with my next door neighbor and their chickens/ducks/incredibly mean geese. I've had little animals all my life (except the last several years since I've been at school), so I don't think I'd be TOO overwhelmed. Only problem is... I was looking at McMurray hatchery (anyone ever buy from there?) and there are a lot of neat looking little guys... it's so hard to try to narrow it down to a few. I wish they were more self sufficient. My dad's 13.4 acres about 5 minutes from Draper are just sitting there not doing anything since he had to move to Kansas when GM closed. I could buy toooons, but I don't want to live out there it's too annoying to commute. Wow I kind of went off on a tangent. Again, thanks for the offer.

ehurt, welcome to the board!!! I think kaacres will be taking the chick, so don't worry about that. As far as the livestock regulations... Its that way around here. And my husband-to-be is a cop, so I have no hope sneaking the chickens to town with me. *haha*

Here's my suggestion: Find out what the fine is if they catch you with them. I'm sure it would be a warning with so many days to relocate them. If you are willing to take that risk, get just a few hens. Hens because they don't crow and the neighbors are less likely to complain. And if you're giving them free eggs that too may be a plus.

I'd take up Poultryandbees on the babysitting offer.

Grace, HA HA you got caught catching the mods.

I got my first April Fool's joke ever in today. We found a puppy, and told my sister's boyfriend that it had peed where he was sitting in the car. Dumb joke, I know, but he really flipped out. *ha*

So, we have this puppy we found on the side of the highway. I think it looks like a Golden Retriever, but my mom thinks its mixed. Pretty sure it is female (couldn't check in the dark.) If anyone would like to give this cute baby a home, please let me know! If we don't find a home in the next couple days, it goes to the shelter.

A good friend of mine just told me that she will be having to give up her birds. She has several ducks, and a few older chicks that she got from me. I'm not sure what she is asking for them, but if you are interested please let me know.

hi ehurt, I read an article in the BYp mag (backyardpoultry) for april/ may issue i think anyways a lady who live in a new york townhouse type apartment skyscraper type building had 2 silkies that she kept in her apartment in a cat or ferret type cage and she would put them out on the balcony on a little pallet of potted grass. So theres an idea of having them and not getting caught.

I have 3 turkens that I have had in the house in my laundry room in a very large cat cage with 3 levels, they've been in there since mid augest of last year, when the were day olds, I just haven't bulit them their own pen out in the coop yet. I don't want the bigger roos bullying them or the guineas pulling their tail feathers out, anyway they don't make that much noise and the roo has not crowed even once in the house. And I do know that on the bantam breeds like seramas and D'Uccles that the Roos don't grow very loud and the crows a very short about 3 secs, that i have timed so far. I rasie all my day old rare and bantam breeds in my laundry room and I have never had that much of a noise problem and I know cause my guest room is right on the other side and I have slept comfortable to the sound of the day olds peeping. So theres you some advice, information, and ideas for a good ole country, gal who has friends inthe big big cities who own chickens. Good Luck:yiipchick

Poultryand bees, I sent you a PM ... I have Jersey Giant eggs 17 as of today ... could be blue, black or splash.

Countyroad, I sent you a PM ... yes, I'm interested in the Orps, also the brabanters could be cream or gold or mixed.

Buckguy, I'll look for a marans or wellsummer hen at Cement or let me know what you'll take for that Jersey hen.

I am so proud of my self

I went to a 'ginormous' poultry auction and did not buy a single thing!
I had forgotten how huge this auction was, though; there were cars/trucks everywhere - even out in the highway! The auction started at 7:00, and by the time I left at 9:30, they hadn't even gotten to the adult birds yet! They had only done the eggs and chicks, pretty much.
There were about 100 dozen eggs (no exaggeration!). The only eggs that I was interested in were the Silver/Blue Araucana "show birds", nice dark Welsummer, Cuckoo Maran, and Buff Minorca eggs..... but, like I said earlier, I didn't buy anything!
I can guarantee you that as soon as I empty my 'bator or get a hen to go broody, I will be back at that auction and buying up eggs like crazy!!

Oh! Buckguy, I really need to talk to you and have a plan before I go to that next auction! There were probably 10-15 Welsummer hens and a couple of roosters. I don't even know what they went for, though, because I left before they got to the adult birds. Anyway, if you could give me a list of what you want and what you wanted to pay, I might could get you some more incentive to come down to "Peanutville"
