Just finished construction on my hillbilly brooder and do-it-yourself travel cage.

You know it's getting bad when

1) the indoor brooder you have is full of quail chicks that just aren't quite ready to go outside yet,

2) the incubator is full of quail and chicken eggs that are just about ready to hatch,

3) you have cartons of hatching eggs from the birds you already have, and

4) you just bought more eggs online.

I'll be glad when it's cool enough for me to use our big trough brooder out in the chicken coop again.

little late on responding but hey i will ry anything once! probably twice........ trappers huh? they sell gator and/or snake????

They sold gator when I was there, but it's been a couple of years. It didn't have as distinct a taste as I was expecting, but it wasn't bad. I don't think they had snake while I was there or I probably would have ordered it, too. The quail and trout I had was delicious, of course.

Also not sure about the snake I have only eaten fresh rattler myself. There was one place in tutumcary new mexico That served it. thing is it markets for $20-$30 dollars per pound so I am sure there isn't alot of places who carry it. But I keep some fresh always I would gladly bring a pot of chili to a poops sometime ;p Gonna go hut about 6 more to stock for winter mon or tues hope I get some biggies

Robin the whole point is not to let you know how wonderful cochins are until you are so taken by them you can't do without them. Some of my first chickens were barred cochins, I still miss BC my first rooster. Right now I am working on a bantam and standard partridge cochin flock cuz I love the color. Hopefully I should start getting eggs from them soon. Next years project is building a mottled and a birchen flock, possibly millie fluer if I can find some. hint hint!

The one thing that is both wonderful and frustrating is how broody cochins get. I have got three sitting right now and finally got two others off the nest after taking their eggs away from them for a month. Stubborn but love them anyway!

Hey all. I have been AWOL for a while. We've pretty busy around here and haven't gotten anything constructive done.

I was attempting to make a cake for a friend's birthday. It is chocolate and it collapsed while cooling. I was wondering if chocolate is safe for birds. I don't think we will be able to eat all the cake that is in the house now. I have been on a baking spree. I currently have FOUR cakes in the kitchen right now and I have to start another one for my friend.

Roy, I was also wondering if the eggs, that you got from me, ever developed. I am seriously curious.

But Wait don't forget.....

5) there are nearly three dozen eggs under your broody hens

6) you also ordered 2 dozen chicks from the hatchery which for the first time is being shipped early so you four week window in down to one week.

7) all three of your grow-out pens are full.
