Dealing with trailers for so many years I have heard a lot of stories about theft. In fact the boss had an entire stack of new trailers stolen about 7 or 8 years ago and they wound up in the Houston area. We got back the dual-tandem and one small ramp-gate trailer.

At the shop we sell a good coupler lock but I think that our pipe lock is a much better deal.

If you just lock the coupler shut as many do without putting something in the coupler it can still be hooked up and driven off with.

If you are going to chain something I would buy a bit of Transport chain in at least 3/4". Transport chain is a better grade of steel and the big links are nearly impossible to cut without a torch.

I have a customer that in the past had three Gooseneck cattle trailers stolen and his solution on the fourth was to get it painted orange from the factory. Gn has never before or since painted a trailer that color and he still has it.
It was however stolen late one night and when the thieves finally saw the color under a light they dropped it and stole another nearby trailer.

About 20 years ago I saw a"Black Friday" advertisement for Samsonite luggage on sale and when I arrived to get this wonderful buy on hardside Samsonite, I was a bit disappointed to see that they were only available in Turquoise. Nevertheless, a very large Samsonite suitcase for $25 was more than I could pass up, so for a number of years various family members traveled with those hideous turquoise suitcases. Needless to say, we didn't have any difficulty finding our luggage on the carousel at the airport

How they (law) found the "goods" of all the trailers being stolen was when the idiot ( once we realized he was stealing peoples things and dumping it in a culvert) stole a trailer that was transporting Dinosaur bones to a museum. Made me mad to think we could have been friends with someone who did crap like that and realized anyone is capable of anything and I pity the parents who always think otherwise of their " poor innocent" children who wont hurt a fly ( such foolish mentality that is)
