A Kite is a beautiful bird, I watched five of them today swooping about.

Here is some info on them.

The Mississippi Kite, Ictinia mississippiensis, is a small bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. It is 12 to 14 inches (30–36 cm) beak to tail and has a wingspan averaging 3 feet (91 cm). Adults are gray with darker gray on their tail feathers and outer wings and lighter gray on their heads and inner wings. Males and females look alike, but the males are slightly paler on the head and neck. Young kites have banded tails and streaked bodies.[1] Mississippi Kites have narrow, pointed wings and are graceful in flight, often appearing to float in the air. It is not uncommon to see several circling in the same area. Their diet consists mostly of insects which they capture in flight. They eat cicada, grasshoppers, and other crop-damaging insects, making them economically important. They have also been known to eat small amphibians, rabbits, and occasionally smaller birds. Their call is a high-pitched squeak, sounding similar to that of a squeaky dog toy.

Update on baby chick: well she is hanging in but not sure that she is going to make it...still have no clue what in the world is wrong with her....for lack of better description it seems like she is gasping for air rather than panting...does that make sense?? I have been keeping vigil over her since this morning...and what makes it even worse is i am pretty sure this is one of my silver laced wyandottes....I already lost at least 2 of these to that stupid cat earlier in the week. Sigh.

You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma.

Disclaimer: This group tends to be enablers, trying to assist other poultry addicts as well as some non-addicted folks in the acquisition of the poultry of their dreams. That said, what kind of poultry do you have and what are you wanting to acquire?

Hello,
I am home from a LONG day at school - 8:15 to 7:30. There whole schools in the district w/o AC so the 6 classrooms w/o AC in my building are way down the priority list. The rain and clouds have helped the overall temp. in the building, I'm ready! My classroom used to be the Home Ec. cooking room so I have a big fridge. I'm making alot of ice and need 125 plastic cups.
HD is on swing shift so it is awfull quiet at home, sure is delightful to hear what all of you have been up to.

I usually give one drop orally to a chick. Once a day for three days after symptoms disappear but not more then 7 days.

Hello Heyray! Welcome to the Okie thread of BYC!
welcome-byc.gif

From your posts, it would appear that you are already addicted to attending poultry auctions

Please introduce yourself to the folks wearing t-shirts with a rooster on the front, with the words "People of Oklahoma Poultry Swap" around the rooster - at the next poultry auction you attend. I suspect there are usually some there at most poultry auctions.
