thanks sooner- have been going through the poultry show section and collecting some pics there, had a request for a series of cochins- Wayne- should be interesting come spring- with 2 standard partridge and the banty cochins- talk about fluffy butts! just was on ebay, someone is selling a Story's Guide for $10, and amazon has the pocketful book for $1.50- i'm afraid to borrow yours cuz it might end up with paint in it! I guess what i am thinking is what are the most popular breeds, since art from those would sell better

Good Evening Everyone!

Got all my boys off to bed....

Now for some me time....

Been busy cleaning up the yard, around the barn and chicken pens,
Getting ready so I dont have to do it this Winter...

It sure has been cold, lately... Maybe we should have our sale this weekend inside the barn? What does everyone think?
Maybe time to start the big pot soup specials back up??? Vegetable soup may be on the menu for Saturday's Sale???

Hope everyone stays safe this weekend. Lots of Wacko's will be out this weekend.

How's everyone been?

NEWS FLASH: Doc gets to take his 2 weeks R&R during Christmas. They have already approved his leave!

Guineas are hatching from the eggs I got at Newcastle and two broody hens hatched out this week. My outlook calender reminder says it is time to move the eggs from Blanchard to the hatcher. There are so many of them, I am just going to turn off the turner in the incubator for a few days and let them hatch in the upper trays.

Teach - congratulations to the family on the deer meat for the freezer

Tina - I will get that cage from you at some auction. What kind of birds are you raising these days?

Buster - Your greeting on another forum - where I posted about the Oklahoma Beekeeper Conference this Saturday - made me smile

I do have one question - for those of you who have successfully helped a chick out of the shell. How do you do it so that the chicken has to exercise its neck and feet, to straighten the neck and get rid of the excess moisture in its feet so they aren't "club" feet? I have several trying to get out of their shells now and without some sort of intervention they are not going to make it - but I have had very little luck in having them survive when I have tried to intervene in the past.

Glad to hear that Doc will be home for Christmas.

I am not really sure P&B, this chick seems to be doing well this morning, it holds its head well but isn't standing very steady, hopefully by the time I get home I can move him back out with the others. Is there a better time to do that Maribeth?

Good Morning everyone!!

Happy Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning! Sure is cold outside and in my house.

I have a gas fireplace in my livingroom. I can get it to light but it goes back out 5 seconds later. When it goes out, the pilot goes out too. Anyone got any ideas?

Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday.

Beautiful momma, and cute babies! Are they Cochin babies?

There could be a cochin mix but I they won't stand still long enough to see if there are any feather on the feet.

It took me a while to catch up on posts for the past few days. I'm glad to see so many people online. Work has kept me from reading and posting.

We're visiting with parents (last night and today), so I don't have students. I'm happy to have met so many parents this early in the year.

We hit 30 in Haskell last night. Chicks in the brooder gave me the stink eye when I gave them food this morning. My first batch of Chanteclers is fully feathered but still in the barn. They sleep spread out, as if they're too warm, but they don't have a heat lamp. I think I'll move them to the juvi pen outside tomorrow. It's going to be neat to have a group of birds who actually like cold weather.

We've had lots of ducks on our pond in the past few days. My students tell me hunting season starts this weekend. Does that sound right? We haven't heard frogs since the ducks arrived, and I'm wondering if they've all been eaten.

Robin – That’s a giant possum. Do you think he died of old age? I work with a lady who says she’s got a blind possum (old, old, old possum) bumping around her place at night. He doesn’t bother anybody, so they’ve let him be.
