Evening all! boy I am one tired old man! I started another coop yesterday evening and totally finished it today, plus running a few honey sews, and doing laundry and cooking supper!
Just got thru putting the turken flock in the new pen, then put the comets in the turkens old pen.Why do they always fight you even when you are trying to do something good for them.I swear one of those turken Roos is harder headed than I am!lol
The new shamos are doing good but are sure skittish. They were raised free range with little human contact.Maybe they will eventually tame down.

there are some good depictions in "Old English as breed and shown in the US" by Jefferies. Both the correct way and deffects. If you are Uncertian I dont mind doing it for you. Start with the wattles, then earlobes. For the Comb start at the back cut straight up from where it joins the base of the head, make a second cut slightly rounded from the back to the base of the bill, you will have a good reference line in the comb to work from, from there trim each side at th erear to slight angle this will aid in a rounded apperance, next you will want to clear the nostrils so they are not covered.

carl

Carl, you are too sweet to offer to come all this way, hopefully we will give it a whirl tomorrow, if I don't care for the way it looks I may be calling you!!!

I'm right behind you Sooner! Then when I finally set down I noticed my wedding ring was missing! Searched the house over ,then went out and checked the gloves I had on today and then the area where I buiolt the new coop. Then took one last look inside the new coop and there it was under the roost. Glad I found it before it got covered in poop and out of site! Wife was happy too! Bad time to loose it when she is getting ready to go out of town for three days!

Well I am a little Upset it seems that after posting my new Ameraucana pullets in the Ameraucana thread that I have spent 72 dollars on Cockerels. I knew nothing of the breed. and I felt I trusted in the source. I have heard alot of good things about him. Seems Somehow or another Either a top breeder of various Show birds either Didn't know he had roosters. Or I just was that easy. It upsets me because the only reason I even wanted EE's or ameraucana's was so the kids would have Colored eggs next easter. I will just take the birds to the sell and try to get my money back on them. It is really irritating though. I am gonna have to assume it wasn'ton Purpose. However first talk about them was stated ""I got some Ameraucana Pullets"" then later after they were paid for it was I don't Know if there Pullets or not.""
Ah well life goes on we live and learn. At least I know how to sex a Ameraucana, Roo and pullet now by comb development. that wont happen again mistake or not. heres the thread on it. From some of the pro's who show them. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=260313&p=475

He is a nice one i would like to have a flock like that...

M&M - how old are the pullets supposed to be? Mine always had pronounced red combs at point of lay. If they were cockrels with that red of a comb, i'd think they'd be crowing by now. You can't always go by what folks say on those threads to take it as the gospel truth. Haven't yet met an expert in poultry, but very few come pretty close!

Munch is doing well, gonna move him into a larger pen as soon as i can get it finished.

So you don't think there just young Cockerels? is that what you mean? He wasn't talking about the color of the comb but how the comb is developing. Perhaps your right Perhaps there wrong. But I do know I have a few breeds I raise and I can tell the development of these breeds at this age in a heartbeat. Would that not Possibly be the same for People Who have chosen to raise these flocks for showing as well? Would they Not know there breed. These are not EE mutts there Ameraucana's isn't there Standards for them as well? sorry for the questions I do know not to listen to alot of things that goes around here.
But some is really good info and there are some People who I feel really know there stuff.

Yes, the breed has a standard of perfection.

What i'm getting at is - just how long have those folk been breeding & raising ameraucana? Not all lines will develop the same, as each breeder selects to their own interpretation of the standard. The photos you posted didn't have good lighting, & cameras do funny things to colors. Did you see the photo of the pullet posted after your pictures? She's got a red comb also.

If you can, take a photo showing a straght on side view & post it here for us to look at.
