Is the pullet shy? thus why the tail is so Low? and Ironically one of my actual layers thats laying has Hackle feathers I laughted when I realized it But then again she is just a EE mutt.I Don't eat any of my birds I have a special cage full of Num Nums.
Perhaps a pic of them is long over due Most I will process friday and saturday along with a 60 lbs turkey and a 45 lbs hen.
CxR are my specialty and I love the challenge of raising them. I actually have gotten use toit and even in our 115 heat index days I never lost a one. Infact the last CxR I lost was well over 8 months ago and I keep flocks of them. I even got a nice breeding pair I conditioned and raised the roosters are beautiful. I do have one hen going down on me atm But long as she can walk to food and water till friday, I guess I am ok with it. I tried to condition 5 hens 2 roo's I have 1 pair that made it and the wobbly girl has her name rwritten all over my crock pot. She is probably 15 lbs.

Just how she was standing when I snapped the pic. I believe that was right after getting home from a show this summer that culminated with a park chase. I'm a terrible photographer with an old camera. Often I'm lucky if there's still a bird in the photo at all by the time the pic is taken. Our latest round of bird pics was immediately after testing and banding. Most were trying to burrow and hide from me.

If you keep the 4 pullets and 1 or 2 of the cockerels

doesn't seem bad to me price wise. I guess it just depends.

I've paid anywhere from $8-$75 per bird for our show flock. Most in the $20 range.

I shipped a micro-sized pair of Silkied Serama to New York state yesterday, overnight express guaranteed to arrive before 3:00 p.m. today....tracking says they left OKC at 7:33 p.m. last night...then they just disappeared from the system...not scanned again. Post office can't tell me anything. The lady in New York is frantic. I don't know how long they can survive without water. I put chunks of apple in the box as a moisture supply. I hope they turn up soon and that they're O.K. I don't really think they're someplace lost...there's a little window to look inside and I think they were just too darn cute for somebody to pass on.. I'm worried about them.

I do a lot of online ordering for people that don't have computers or internet access. The last few weeks tracking info has changed drastically from the norm along with delivery times. I chalked it up to the whole terrorist/mail tracking thing. Hopefully they show up soon.

I posted about my misery on the SCNA (serama) forum and Jerry Schexnader sent out 9 boxes yesterday...only 3 arrived...another girl in S. California shipped a pair to New Mexico (due by noon today) and they have vanished...so hopefully they will be found shortly...yesterday was not a good day for shipping (especially if you were the one in the box). Jerry said he has had them live for 3 days lost.

So I decided it was time to diversify. Now we have this guy strutting around:

I brought him home last night and let Bil know this morning when we were chatting on facebook. He was a little put out about having a pied peacock, until I told him that the guy I got him from has an India Blue that I will go get if he can catch him. I think I have done well not to go out and buy crazy things since he has been gone, but we had been talking about getting peacocks at some point. It just happened a little sooner than he had planned. He did admit that the peacock is pretty neat looking, once he saw the pictures.

Kwartel, that is an interesting looking peacock. Before seeing some posts on this site I never new there was any different kinds then the ones you always see and white.

Ordered some feeder roaches to raise from the roach guy, had set up a home for them last week when I got them, but wasn't happy w/ it so now they have a new home, when I was moving them (w/ DH's help) still freak me out a little, they have already grown. I gave them "roach viagra" (oranges) and they swarmed it, the adults were bigger then I anticipated. (all the better to feed to the girls).

I've had a horrible headache all day that ASA hasn't even touched to DH

Artsyrobin, I don't post many pics to byc, but have a ton on my FB. All my chicken pics are young, but if you want to use any I would be fine w/ it. I have a unique name shouldn't be hard to find just send me a friend request Kassaundra Webber Tamplen.

Ok, it's been a number of years since I have tried to determine the gender of chickens and without checking their pubic bones it is difficult to determine, but from just looking at the picture I am going to guess that the one on the left is a hen and the one on the right is a rooster?

Evening everyone! We had a pretty good day here on the board today. I spent some time on reading about breeding. I am learning alot, hope I can put it to use soon.

Cuban I found a leg color chart that wasn't on a message board so I saved that but would still be interested in seeing the one you have.
