Okies in the BYC The Original

I would imagine, that as the weather has gotten so nice and school is starting to let out, that people have just got so much good stuff going on that they don't have time to pop in here and say Howdy.

Lord knows I've been spending way less time on the computer in the evenings than I had been when the weather wasn't this nice.

Hi Everybody! I am busy building a coop, I have on and off help from my DH and my son helped a little Sunday, but if all goes well, I should have my chickies moved into their new home this evening. I really wanted to go green and build it from recycled materials, but just couldn't gather enough of what I needed in time. I'll post pictures when it's all done. I've got hammered fingers and my arms look like I've been fighting a wildcat from wrestling with the wire, but it will be great to have it finished. My chicks are growing out of their brooders and I have eggs in the 'bator. Wish me luck...

I like going to local independent type of feed stores myself although they may not be any cheaper than big name places.
Lumber 2 and Tractor Supply are two that come to mind.
What part of town do you live in?
There are feed stores all around the metro. You can buy bulk feed by the ton in Luther but it isn't much cheaper than other places and you have to have the barrels to haul it home. The feed there is very good quality.

I guess we're technically in NW OKC, but we're pretty centrally located (Near I-44 and Penn) so it's pretty easy to access most parts of town. I would definitely like to find something close, but I'm willing to travel if I need to. Thanks for the store names though. It's hard to tell from yellow page listings whether or not someone will have what you need.

Hey guys, Im not sure how I just found this post...149 pages later, but I am just over the line in Arkansas, near Ft. Smith. I didn't read all the posts but I thought I would add that when I lived in Edmond, there were auctions/swaps at Maud and Perkins. Im not sure if they are still going, as that has been 6 years ago. There is also a Flea Market at Ft. Smith that usually always has poultry. I read way way back something about ArkansasPoultry_LivestockSwap...can anyone give more information about this. Thanks, Dustin

There is one in Monroe, OK. near the Arkansas border. Go to the Oklahoma Auction thread. I think there is info about it on there.
On Yahoo, there is also an Arkansas Poultry swap group.
I will find the address and let you know.
I will add you to our Okie list if you want, we do have some other western Arkansans on there.

*haha*

Atwood's is having a major CHICK SALE. Not sure why, but we had over 500 birds. There aren't many left since they're so low. Banded pullets are $1.30, straight run $0.70. Not sure what geese, turkeys, and ducks are, but I think its at least half price. I'm pretty sure I saw Foghorn in there today.

Monday I bought some frizzle bantams at Atwoods and then the next day they are half price! I went back in to see if they had some geese left but they were all gone. I will be glad when they quit getting this stuff in and I can quit being tempted!! I'm worse than an alchoholic when it comes to poultry!!

The last day of school is tomorrow. Last week the kids were tearing the place up!! So far this week they have just tried flooding my bathrooms twice and knocked the glass out of a door. Actually they are being good this week! Maybe saving their energy for tomorrow!!

Goodness Foghorn, good luck Friday!! I hope that's the highschool that's so bad and not the middle school. If not, I'd hate to think what the high school is like... *ha*

Hope everyone's making it through the storms alright. There's not a cloud in the sky here.

Hello everyone, we just got back from the Harrah auction. It was hot, sweaty & miserable there. Hopefully, they'll get a few fans for the building. They had one large fan, but they turned it off for a while, because the people in the back of the room couldn't hear the auctioneer. Anyway, it was a great place to buy today, but not so wonderful if you wanted to sell. We only sold some chicks and some eggs, and Gerald had some metal carts on wheels that he sold. Our biggest purchase was $3700 ... a 2007 33 ft. gooseneck trailer. Gerlad
s been wanting a big trailer for quite a while now, so that he can haul his tractor around. Anyway, we came home with a free orange & white kitten, compliments of the auction owner, and we bought some hatching eggs. Oh, and we bought 4 mille fleur d'uccle juvenile chicks for 35 cents each. I think they're probably all roosters, but I just couldn't stand letting them sell to someone else for just 25 cents, so I bid 35 and got them. There were a lot of chickens selling for less than a dollar each there. It was really sad! I count myself lucky to have sold some bronze turkey poults for $4 each, and my hatching eggs for $4-5 a dozen. Quite a few hatching eggs went for a little over a dollar a dozen, and eating eggs went for as low as $1.25 for a flat

Well, the next Harrah auction is in 2 weeks ... the same weekend as Oklahoma Chickenstock, and the same time as the Cement auction. We most likely will go to the Cement auction on June 7th. We MUST sell some chickens & eggs! I guess I should take some pictures of what I have & try to sell some on craigslist. I'd probably get more money for them that way!
