Anyone up here in NE OK have any Polish hatching eggs or chicks available? Any color is fine....I have a couple of WC Blue chicks and a WC Spash chick and I've fallen in love with this breed.

Okieboy, Welcome to the Okies in the BYC! So, are you buying Blue JERSEY Giant eggs? I also raise them.

Hey everybody, Gerald & I are considering going to the Maud auction again tonight. Anybody else going? I really should be selling some of my Jersey Giant rooster juveniles ... but don't know if I'll have time to gather some up before the auction since I'll have to come home from work & feed everything before going.

Oh, and last night when I was moving some birds around I noticed the Australian shepherd jump back at something in the grass. Well I investigated .... big ol' rat snake heading toward me & the barn. Gosh, I wish I had my gun & some rat shot loaded! I grabbed the closest thing I could find, an old board, and tried to hit it, but all I was successful in doing was jab myself with a huge splinter in my right hand. I had to stop what I was doing and go into the house to find tweezers, glasses, and a needle to finally dig it out. It hurt! Hopefully it doesn't get infected ... it probably bled enough to get out any dirt. Darn snake! It may be the reason why I haven't been getting many eggs lately!

I probably won't go tonight either. Is it possible to make a list or schedual of when the auctions are and make it sticky, or add it to the first page as a reference? I don't know when they are and I am having a hard time keeping track of them. If I know in advance, and have a quick reference, I stand a better chance of being able to plan it and go.

I have a couple of other questions...are there any hatcheries in ok? My dad said that there used to be one downtown years ago, but that it's probably closed now. Where can I get baby chicks here? I got my last ones at Lumber Two and they were straight run. I think I ended up with Two out of four being roosters and maybe a third is a roo too. I would like to get some buff Orp chicks, and if I can, I would like them to be pullets.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me

Here's a link to some info on Oklahoma Auctions: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=702199#p702199

And
here's what I posted earlier :

The auction in Maud, which is every Thursday night, has quite a few goats and chickens. I've only attended it once, and there were over 200 goats sold ... too many for me, since I don't own any, although I've been thinking about it lately. Here's a craigslist advertisement of it: http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/grd/732144204.html

Oh
, and here's a link to the auction in Mt. View, which is on craigslist right now. I've never been there before either, but I just might have to take a look at it this weekend. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/grd/733307824.html

As
for hatcheries in Oklahoma, I'm not aware of any, but someone else may know. I have chicks for sale, but not large quantities. Eventually, I'll even have some buff orpingtons ... my pullets have finally begun to lay! I have chicks occasionally from my Spitzhauben, Brabanter, Jersey Giant, and Silkie chickens, along with white guinea chicks ... actually, I may have some available of all of these right now. I definitely have some 3-4 month old roosters of jersey giant, cuckoo marans, and maybe a few wheaten marans.

Country Hatchery down by Wewoka has Buff Orps, and quite a few other breeds. I'm going to try them in the spring for Buff Orps and some Polish.

Cammie, you would have loved the Maud auction ... lots of baby bunnies. I think some sold for as low $3 each. The lionheads were only around $8 each ... which sell for around $20 at the Cement auction.

We bought 3 royal palm turkey poults for $3 each, 10 Narragansett turkey eggs for $3, and 4 peacock & 6 turkey eggs (unknown variety) for $6 and a cage for $6.50. We got out of there cheap today!

Rebbeca Muesky was there ... she bought a golden sebright hen and a pied peacock chick tonight. That peachick is adorable!

There were still too many goats for sale at Maud ... certainly more than a hundred, and they sell very low. Many went as low as $9 each for babies. Oh, I'm so tempted to get a goat! I think they started selling chickens at about 9:30 pm, and we left just a little before the auction ended, and that was about 12:15 am when we left.

We had fun!

The Maude auction is every Thursday evening ... even on the 3rd of July! But, they said they probably won't have one on Christmas Day. I guess they are open year round?

I have pygmy goats, and just think they are the greastest thing..besides my chicks..I was going down past Little Rock to get those gaints, but the wife changed her mine at the last minute..So we did't get any..still want some chicks of eggs..

Okcarla: I don't need any Roo's right now but maybe in a couple of weeks we could work out something on some Gaint eggs if you have them, you are a lot closer than where I was going..maybe we could meet at Maud..
I could get some eggs and check out the goats..it would be a win win for me

Hey everybody, I think a lot of us need to go to the next Maud auction. okiemommy, countyroad1330, Muesky, okieboy, nnbreeder, Buckguy20, Goldrose, Summerwindsfarm ..EVERYBODY on Okies in the BYC .... come on! Next week's auction is the day before Independence Day ... surely you could celebrate by going to a livestock auction! I recommend insect repellent if you go ... several mosquitos & flies were bothering us last night. Oh, and bidder #1500 is there ... buying everything that nobody else will.

okieboy, I'd be happy to sell some Jersey Giant eggs or I have some chicks that are several weeks old that I could bring to the Maud auction the next time I go. I'm hoping to go again next week. I don't know if I'll be able to go again after that. It's possible I'll be changing shifts again at work ... if so, I will be working nights again & won't be able to go to the auction anymore unless I take off work.
nnbreeder, if you and your wife are going to the Maud auction next week ... should I bring a couple of blue Jersey Giant roos for you to look at?

Gosh, there's a lot of people on here with goats ... they don't lay eggs ... why do people keep them?

Oh, and I haven't found the monster rat snake again yet ... but I think it's what killed a couple of my guinea chicks I had in a cage in the guinea pen. One chick looks like it had been wet & squeezed and blood coming out it's beak. Another chick dead in the cage with head trauma, and the last 5 are running around the guinea pen .... and the cage door is still shut, but it's got a spring latch ... I'm thinking the snake got in the cage through the door and the other guinea chicks escaped while it was trying to swallow the unlucky ones. I still need to go buy some rat shot bullets. I don't think my 5 adult guineas are any match for that big of snake, although I've heard guineas will kill snakes.
