Evening everyone.
I am glad I'm not the only one who names their birds.

I have kind of taken over the care of the laying flock and we have a wonderful BL Roo named "Sampson".

He got that name because the first time I caught him he opened his wings and I almost could not hold them together.
Then after that he visited the neighbors yard and their foo foo dog clipped his locks. He looked pretty bad for a while and was just getting better when he jumped the fence again.
Stupid bird!
Dog got him again and pealed some more feathers.
Well he has his locks back and he is as strong as ever and very mild tempered.

and oh yeah, he has not been over the fence again.

Al, the last time I was at Blanchard, I bought two of those huge wooden coops, anyway on the boards above each stall someone had written the names of the pairs that were kept there.

The best pairing was Rambo and Dolly Parton! It made me laugh. Maybe I'll start naming my birds now!

(Reminds of the story of the guy that named his first car after his English teacher.)

Well of course I do have the one bird everyones knows does have a name, the "HULK" he's my avatar pic, but he doesn't know that's his name LOL.

AL

You are so tough. Jack has only one too - Billyjack, his #1 Gold Salmon Marans. Jack didn't even name him, Joe did. Billyjack hasn't been held since he was a chick.

cayuse here is a pic, sorry it is a crappy pic, but you'll get the idea. Since this pic was taken I have cut out the sidewalls and filled half way up w/ leaves.

cool idea, just planted potatoes for the first time this year.

You don't have to fill the stacked tires w/ dirt, you can fill w/ hay, straw, or leaves too. I'm filling w/ leaves. You are supose to get a lot more potatoes per plant, and they are supose to be easier to harvest. We'll see it is my first year.

OK, so I am about as much a newbie at gardening as I am at Chickens...so let me clarify here. Potatoes will grow in leaves just like they do in soil?

I started with dirt to get the taters going but have been adding leafs/hay & dirt after that.

Same here

Kass - thanks for the pictures, saw them as I was scrolling up
