no your not hurting them at all ....

my hens are used to free ranging , i get them from a old school cocker who has alot of hens free ranging

Donnie - I'm sure my girls would love to free-range, but they'd be eaten by hawks in an instant. We have hawks trolling our pastures from dawn until dusk. There are a lot of wild rabbits out here, and they get eaten. A chicken of any kind would be less work for a hawk.

Well evening folks....been busy around here

I finally am working on my sermon for tomorrow...supposed to be talking about Matthew 5:21-37...I think I shall skip any discussion about 31-32...don't figure I need to go there...

i hear ya , anytime i free range i loose birds , but its to neighbors dogs most of the time , the guy i get them from has over 100 grown cocks out on tie cords , and i have seen them attack a hawk , so the hens do run for safety , but i try not to free range unless im out there now

Looks like the auction bunch is MIA here tonight, I hope they are having fun as I am sure they are. I really wanted to go but was kept in town doing work related things.

after poops , i cant drive the 3 + hrs , and take off work , i have classes mon thru friday and i work everyday except tues and thrusday and friday at the gas station and then i still train horses , so taking off to get to enjoy the auction is way out of the question for me

Well i got another question and im sure most of you know the right way.. I have been building a brooder and looking at all the different brooder plans on byc and from the ones i have looked almost all of them seem to have a solid wood bottom. The one i am building will have a wire bottom . I have this big plastic tub that i cut the bottom off to use as a tray to slide under the wire to catch the litter .So is wire ok or should i scratch that idea and go with a solid bottom.. any input would be greatly appreciated... thanks
