I am with donnie! I have both types of brooders...one is an old horse tank with holes...the other is one of them cool ones with feeders and such on the sides...(I love auctions) anyways...never have issues with cleaning it! The only benefit I see to the solids ones is when it gets really cold or drafty...but...those are problems solved by other means...

thought we might get lucky donnie! Don't kow why you wanna spend all that time in school...look where it got me! back in school! lol!!

personally , i would stick with the wire , i am tired of cleaning solid bottomed brooders lol

Thanks Donnie that is my way of thinking as well.. its been a while since i brooded any chicks but i do know i hated having to clean it every day the wire is way better i think.. this shoud be a nice brooder when i get it finished . its almost 4ft wide and 8ft long so it should hold 30 or 40 chicks for several weeks..

You guys have been busy today! I see Lil'Sooner came to visit while I was busy working! She made me proud today.

I like the wire bottom brooder too. I hope to build one this spring or find a cool on at the auction like Teach!

yeah i know i will have to build one lol , i bought a big cage awhile back for quail so i may block part of it off and use it for a brooder lol

i bet , we were proud of her too , sounds like she did great ...

Yes it sounded like she did quite well... can i ask how old lil'sooner is .. i have a 14 year old i would like to get involved in the shows .. she has shown pigs and goats and rabbits so maybe can get her to try the chickens once we get some chickens for her to play with...lol
