You know when I get my pens the way i want them and enough for the large fowl I already have I think I will be wanting the coronation sussex. I think the are beautiful birds.

I am having minor surgery tommorow, outpatient, I probably won"t even be lurking. My newly aquired birds are temporally at Okracefans house since I don't have a good preditor proof pen built for them yet and won't be around tommorow. I hope I will get them back from him!LOL Hopefully I will be home Tommorow night.

I was flogged from behind by one of my EE roosters last year. There had been no warning signs either. He actually pierced my leg thru a pair of sweat pants and made a hole in my calf the size of a 22 bullet . Needless to say, he made a great bowl of chicken dumplings. Now we use a band saw and cut the points off the horns when the spurs get long.

No need for a band saw, you should be able to just twist them off. i think some people use a potato cut in half and slide over the spur then twist. We use dog clippers and cut the points off when we dont twist them off.

I just recently started using clippers on the hens toenails since we changed the floor of the run to sandy loam I never trimmed the spurs up to the attack....never knew they could twist off or that a potato could be used....hmmmm

barny the brahma is normally very gentle- never had to watch out for him- he replaced a roo that went to freezer camp! that was a mean one! so i am hoping he is just feeling spring- not like him to be mean...i hope!

well, off to bed too- chat at ya all in the morning!

take care nocity- be prayin for ya

when you twist off the spurs, they may limp around a little for a day or so, and a kind of thin substance will form over the bone spur, nothing to worry about...
