Muesky - Great to see you online. Sorry to hear about your flock losses. I'm anxious for POOPS this spring too. Maybe we'll hear something from the planning committee soon (Hint, Hint).

Snowfall again in Haskell. Hope we don't get too much accumulation. Guineas are ready to go on a rampage due to boredom and wild birds eating all their food. The sparrows and cardinals are bathing in the guinea heated water dish, which is making a horrible mess. There's plenty of food out for the sparrows and other birds, but it looks like they prefer pellets instead. I need to carry a scrub brush out to the pens in a few minutes to try to clean up some of the wild poop. Yuck!

Final count on hatch for friend is 19 out of 20. I helped the last three out a little; they'd been jostled to the very edges of the 'bator, and I'm sure moved out of hatching position. I left them alone for about 5-6 hours after I moved the 16 to the brooder--couldn't see pips in any. When I checked later, three had barely pipped and were chirping. One was bleeding a bit and the other two hadn't pipped through the membrane--just a tiny chip of shell. I chipped them out some, leaving them in the bator. This morning the two that had pipped only every so slightly were running all around the 'bator and the other was stuck more tightly than any I've every seen. Quickly cleaned it off as well as I could, but had to dampen it. Left it in the 'bator, and it is at least still alive. Opened the fourth egg that hadn't pipped at all, and it was a shame because it was ready to hatch. These are light and dark brown bantam Leghorns.

Frank was happy with my initial report of 4 chicks, as some of the eggs had gotten cold and he wasn't expecting much of a hatch. He's about ecstatic now!

This confirms that my 'bator is working well. My latest several hatches have been less than ideal, but I'm sure it's because they've been mostly lav silkies. Everyone has trouble hatching them.

Need some advice for anyone in OKC, we are suppose to head that way after work for the weekend. Our hotel is on NW Expressway and we'll be coming from Ponca City. Think we'll be okay or should we stay home? We've got 4 wd.

The baskets have $30.00 worth of the basics, Tomatoes,cuccs,okra,squash,zucchini, and whatever other misc. stuff I fell like throwing in @ the time. But the baskets can be modified to ea. persons likeing. If you get the $50. baskets you will be getin 4 $30. baskets a total of $120 for $50 which is paid for in advance. The $100 basket is * baskets of the same $30 value which is A $240 value for $100. Also I will substitute other veggies such as potatoes, corn, whatever else is available but it is just easier to star with a basic basket so they are all the same.

I keep thinking about those bantam favorelles myself. Been looking on line but not found anyone who will contact me back about getting eggs or chicks and the hatchery I thought had show stock for sale is not advertising them now. As for the Ameraucanas, I love them. They are some of my favor birds, I actually learned to love the pea combs after my first winter and having to deal with frostbite on combs. The hens have almost no comb at all which makes them more hawk looking, in my opinion, which I like.
The one thing about chickens is they are like Lays potato chips, you can't stop with just one. I am always finding different birds I would like to have. Right now I am working on standard and bantam dark brahmas. Brahmas have the most laid back, coolest personalities and are super friendly. Of course I love my cochins as well. I have a couple of little partridge hens who love to talk to me. Those girls will talk your ear off if you let them, it is so cute. Of course, I am still looking for black sultans, cuz they are totally wonderful birds, as well. A little dingy but sweet gentle personalities. Ohh the list goes on and on and on........
I am looking at ordering chicks the beginning of March, hopefully we will be dug out of the snow by then. Looking forward to some baby chicks.

First order is for Salmon Favorelles, then dark brahmas. After that I don't know. Might save up for turkey poults in May and June.

Well going to go out and check on my feathered friends.

Wayne, they lost 3 out of the eight- they were headed to work, and the bridge has some unevenness to it, apparently they hit it wrong- keep praying for the families

i let the chickens come on the porch while i was watering- it was so funny- they come trooping out headed for the ramp(18)... stop dead- then slowly turned around and went back in, dejected, almost like school kids- MA!! We want to run!
