Morning all It is really foggy here this morning! I have to go load a large load of scrap metal this morning, then come home and unload and seperate stuff and relaod a load to haul in for some cash flow! My eggs have been in the bator now for 16 days, so when should I put them down in the hatcher tray? Should I candle them now? I have never hatched in a Sportsman before so it is new to me, any ideas on seperating eggs when they hatch??? I have heard someone say to put the eggs in womens stockings and tie them up so you can keep up with what is what! I thought about onion bags or the likes maybe! Cold make some temp. deviders out of something! How about the strawberry containers??? Anyone using a method I could try, I have several different breeds that may hatch out looking like someone else! A small pet carrier without a door on it works well as a nest box, as does an enclosed cat litter box or one of those square buckets that cat litter comes in, turned on its side.

my gals decided with all the wonderful nestboxes to choose from.... the bestest one was......drumroll please... a cardboard box!

it was all barbara the BR that started it...

so now they will wait in line, with all the other boxes of various sizes, which have been laid in- but no.... its the box!

Just get you some five gallon buckets and saw the lid in half and pop it back on and put some hay in there with a golf ball, lay a brick on each side or nail a board or something to it to keep it from rolling, aboard nailed to the half lid works good! they will get the idea!!! Lynn

I got the biggest. They'll hold an entire egg carton. I need to put a couple wire dividers across today. I'd say their smaller sizes looked like they maybe would hold half a carton and then maybe 2 or 4. Just the eggs and they'd hold more. Cheap and should work. Guess I'll know in a few more days.
