Sorry to be missing Fletcher tonight. Hope everyone has a great time. DH was going to take me to a movie and dinner, but he discovered at the last minute that he has a paper due Monday. He thought the due date was a week away.

Vesta had her booster shot and well-puppy checkup. She's 35 lbs. of fur and kisses. At night, though, she barks when she hears or sees anything moving in the pasture near the back porch. She's going to be a wonderful guardian.

Maribeth - What's a blue Madagascar hen look like? Can you post a picture?

PnB, that Michael D. is one heck of a guy. Did he manage to sell any goats? We spent a fun hour or two the other day rounding up some of my goats. It should have been easy but I fed them too much that morning and the feed wasn't much of an enticer. He has the patience of a saint.


Getting a new toy on Monday or Tuesday. My nephew bought me an android phone. I've always liked computers, but never realized I would one day be able to carry one in my pocket!! I love my nephew.

I have a question . i want to try to get into hatching but to be honest i dont know much but i am learning more everyday from you guys on here but i was wondering if i do get a bator can they be hatched in it and then moved to a brooder or do i have to have sometime i have heard on here called a hatcher... i want to get all my ducks in a row so to speak before i get started... thanks

Incubate in an incubator. Hatch in a hatcher. Brood in a brooder.

Some incubators double as hatchers by increasing the humidity during lock-down (last 3 days - don't turn the eggs - don't open the incubator). I prefer to move my eggs to a table-top incubator with a fan for hatching. It's easier to clean that way, and I don't disturb the humidity for the eggs that are still in the incubator. I've got a cabinet incubator for incubating and three table top incubators with fans for hatching. A person can hatch about 40 chicken eggs in a table-top incubator, but I prefer to hatch only a dozen or so in each so that they have more room and don't play egg soccer with the eggs that are slower to hatch. All your hatchlings get moved to a brooder after they are dry and fluffy. Brooders are better than TV. Even though you can't change the channel, you'll see the chicks act out their own versions of "Survivor," "Glee," "McGiver," "Star Trek--if you hatch naked necks," and any number of other programs. I love the chicks that act out "The Waltons."

But anyhow to answer the question yes you can hatch with just a bator. No need for the hatchery also.
