*** OKIES in the BYC ***

Hi Y'all!
Brand new to chickens and loving BYC!
I live in Morris, which is about 9 miles east of Okmulgee.
I have 29 chicks that are 3 weeks old today. Since I am just starting out, I got several different breeds. So far the Buff Cochins and the Silver Laced Wyandottes are the friendliest of the bunch.
About 4 weeks ago I acquired 8 hens and 1 rooster. All Barred Rocks and last Spring's chicks. Long story short...the previous owner goes out every Spring and gets about 25 chicks from the local feed store. She keeps them in a fenced in coop. Problem is, she only cleans the coop out in the Spring when she gets rid of the hens and gets new chicks. IT WAS GROSS!! After getting them doctored up and on a regular diet, they have made great progress and are starting to finally lay!
My youngest son is autistic and the chicks and chicken have been an awesome teaching tool in many areas!
Look forward to getting to know my fellow OKIES better.

Wildfires scares me

I sure hope I don't have one on my property with all the critters we have.

I burned inside my burn barrel and I saturated the ashes. No Smoke or anything since about 2 Pm

Teach I just got some exiting news you might like. I got Blue laced red bantams and self blue bantam cornish on the way straight from the original stock that was used to create the breed. MR. Cash's grandfathers stock. He was the man to create the first Blue laced Red bantam Cornish. and get it recognized by the ABA.

evening guys! wow am i tired- but our once was house guinea now has her own digs- check this out- she must have dusted and kicked dirt for hours! finding stuff i didn't know was there!

i made a box for her, a 'coop' that is screwed together and has a door that has sliding pieces of wood like a lock on the outside- the whole coop and run is inside the chicken run, so double fencing- dave says she should be safe in that set up- trying not to be nervous!

maybe after a few weeks the others will accept her....either way she will have her own run and coop

my goodness you are awesome taking on the poor hens and chicks!! Some people! Our grandson is autistic, and yes being able to focus on the chickens must be awesome to see! Welcome again!
