Glad you are home safely. I must confess that I am curious about the racoon theme for the sermon. I can think of several things regarding their behaviour that can be commented about, but am curious as to the scriptures he selected.

I feel like I have been run over....

Spent the afternoon and evening spring cleaning the barn... Still got lots of work to do on it.

Heard from Doc a little bit ago... He has 99 days til he Leaves Afghanistan, then 2-3 weeks of ACAP----> WooHoo!

Anyone close to Alva (NW of Enid) that wants the material from a large pole barn in exchange for tearing it down? The pictures on craigslist look there is a lot of wood involved - way up high.

30 x 60 Pole barn for hay, machinery or equipment. You tear it down and its yours. All material must be removed from property. All tools and labor must be provided. 580-430-5050.

had a busy day here, rearranged the house to get the two GQF's in, plus a big dog crate as we just got a bernese mountain dog to keep out with the chickens at night and when we are gone. Feel like I have been soaked and wrung out...

Glad you are home safely. I must confess that I am curious about the racoon theme for the sermon. I can think of several things regarding their behaviour that can be commented about, but am curious as to the scriptures he selected.

The scripture was Matthew 3:1-12, about John the Baptist heralding Christ's coming - and the sermon was on a "Wilderness Crying for a Voice." The gist of the message is that we are the Voice "crying out" to those who may be in their own Wilderness - those feeling lost, lonely, hopeless, abandoned, trapped by life's circumstances, or imprisoned by sin. God can and does use us, even when we don't know it, to reveal Christ. The racoon story was an analogy of how sometimes sin can creep into our lives by appearing harmless, or because we may feel that we are "different" and won't be affected like others have. To illustrate this point, he told the story of a zoo biologist's attempts to warn a woman who had a pet racoon ("Julie") that at about 24 months, racoons undergo a glandular biological change - and whatever cuteness they may have as babies and juveniles will go out the door as they reach full adulthood and can become truly vicious. "Julie" responded with, "Oh no, my cute little Bandit would never hurt me - we have a very close bond." Three months later, the zoo biologist was visiting Julie in the hospital where she was recovering from facial reconstructive surgery caused by her sweet Bandit's devastating attack on her.

...so maybe the whole sermon wasn't about racoons per se....

I am curious. How do you get a "pedigree" for your line of chickens? There are some hatching eggs listed on the OKC craigslist that are described as "Pedigree Bred" and I am curious as to the paperwork that might be involved

Since I don't show chickens, maybe I am not understanding something that is common for "show chickens." Carla is missing an opportunity to get major $$$ for her wonderful wheaten maran eggs if anyone buys the ones on craigslist for the $30 per dozen listed price.

Actually, I was thinking about how people think it is "cute" to feed raccoons until they start destroying your property to find food and shelter for their kits. . . sort of the same theme.

Well good morning everyone Ha Ha

It seems like morning. Got home at 630am and back to barn at 830 am. Want tell everyone it was a pleasure to see you all. Yes I believe spring is near.

To all of you if are bringing anything to sale call me as soon as you can. I will try to get you set in as early as possible. We had stopped at 230 am. Still had lots to sale but we managed to get all birds thru the sell.

as far as i am concerned, pedigree's for poultry are a farce., and no it isnt common in show chickens. 99.9% of breeders will laugh at you if you asked for a pedigree.

pedigree doesnt mean squat in a chicken, show or otherwise, if it did we wouldnt have to cull so heavy every year.

someone is just using a "word" to jack up their price on egg's. i personaly wouldnt purchase eggs or birds from a person doing this.

of course i wouldnt pay more for chocolate colored eggs over white eggs either, eggs are eggs. i have never noticed a difference in taste.

i have been noticing lately that everyone is talking about how high their birds and eggs are selling at auctions. i have also noticed people giving way to much for "show birds" because of who raised them, [mabey], or the "bloodlines" it is a shame that we are letting ourselves get priced out of our own means. there is no way a 25 dollar hen is going to lay enough eggs to pay for herself and feed. i wont give 25 bucks for a good show bird, much less a layer.

it is becoming like the fighting cock thing all over again, people with more money than brains decide they have to have something and pay a ridiculous price for it. then joe schmoe heres that so and so got 100 dollars for a bird, so now he has to get 100 dollars for his birds no matter what. and here we go, cant by a chicken for less than 50-75 bucks a head.

last time i saw eggs sell for more than 5 bucks a dozen, i laughed my fool head off at the person that bought them. they are eggs, if hatching you stand to get mabey 25% hens and 75% cocks out of what hatches. where does the common sense figure in to that? my god i get 3 tines as many cocks as i want now!

all i am saying is everyone needs to watch what they pay at auctions and swaps for birds and eggs, doesnt matter what they are. pay what you want, but remember that a 10 dollar hen will lay as much or more than a 20 dollar hen. and you can get twice as many!

sorry for the rant, and i did not mean to step on anyones toes.
