Or, you need more chickens for the space you were trying to clear out.

Soo... what'cha looking for?

I figured out a little to late I should have confined them to the smaller space. That was always going to be the plan when the growing season started, smaller rotaing runs. That is what I've been working on the fencing and getting the virgin garden spots ready, I'm just a lot more behind then I had planned on. As for more chickens, I would love it, but I'm in town so don't want to make to many waves and get what I have taken.

I have EE's now, and I have been smitten by they very friendly, unique looking bearded ladies, and their beautiful blue and green eggs, and can't even imagine a more perfect chicken for what I want.

They are one of my all time favorite heavies. I still have three that I picked up as chicks a couple of years ago. They are still laying well for me too.

He's barred, kind of like a black sexlink male, but has white skin & legs. Course his bare spots are bright red.

hi guys- one of my gals laid this egg.... so what caused it? maybe the thunderstorms?

and tell me tater isn't a cornish.... she was mys freeby from tsc... they said BO, i thought maybe leghorn..but i am getting suspicious

I doubt the thunderstorms caused the strange egg. I have gotten long pointy eggs with strange "finishes" too. The egg producing mechanisms of hens are wondrous indeed, and sometimes weird things happen. I wouldn't worry about it.

And I do think "Tater" is a Cornish X...too wide to be a Leghorn, and too white to be a Buff Orpington. Sorry...I could be wrong.

I seem to have gotten a lot of l o n g eggs this year too. Not that long but long enough to not be hatchable. Don't know if its the weather or whats causing them. Tater looks like a cornish x or white rock to me too! He will proably eat you out of house and home!lol. Hows Poser tonight? Is she back under the porch/

i was afraid of that with tater- she just is different from any i've had- sits alot etc- not sure how to work with her to help her from getting too big too fast-

so the egg is just one of those weird ones huh? what causes shelless eggs? i have a hen that does that about once a week

Robin - you might try a search in the BYC Search bar up there on the right to find more information on both your questions - about how to keep a Cornish X healthy longer and shell-less eggs.

Do you keep oyster shell out for your hens Robin? Don't know if that will stop it or not but it might. Other than that all I could come up with was nervous hen,hen on crack,Posers sneaking up behind her and "goosing " her! Yeah I know I'm a lot of help!lol
