On another question...with 9 hens...about how many eggs a day would be normal? With the exception of the Polish, they are all listed as good layers. We all work during the day so it is hard to tell who is laying and who isn't.

Only if they don't pick out the corn & leave the rest & that is what mine will do. They will pick out all the "candy" & leave anything they don't like. So to save my self time & money I feed layer pellets with scratch or chops as a treat only.

Mine dont, but I only toss in small handfuls once a day or so, and they eat it up so fast they dont have time to pick and choose, cause if they dont eat it the others will...

My layers have feed 24/7 self feeders so they pick. Glad it works for you. I don' tknow enough to mix feed but I use a 21% protein from the local feed store.

]Depending on the age of the hens anywhere between 5 - 9. If your hens are around a year old the you should get between 7 -9 daily if fed properly. And weather will straighten out.

I think it works for me because I feed my birds once a day, I dont have them on self feeders, an old man I respect once told me 'A hungry chicken is a healthy chicken' cause if they are active, scratching, diggin and workin for food, they will stay in good shape and will have less health problems than an overweight bird that isnt real active...

hey gotgame what brand of laying feed do you use.. i cant seem to find anything around here with more than 16% protein... oh yeah i mixed up some of your scratch and the BB Reds love it got some of them dog treats that you said they look like a slim jim they dont know just what to make of them yet...lol

. Roger has been in and out of the hospital but I see him around from time to time. I just bought a place about mile from him on the other side of the highway and will be moving there in a month so will be seeing him more often.
