Now that you posted the directions it came back to me. I have a 10, 5 and 2 gallon crocks and mom made me promise to never store them inside. Just tip them upside down in a sheltered area outside.
the thinking behind this was in the winter the air is so dry with the heat inside it could crack the crock by drying them out. And I have ran across a few that were cracked that had been stored inside. I know the big crock was grandma's and unless in use it had never spent a night inside. I think it is at least 75+ years old.
