Well had a great time today at the Guy Rose Auction, lots of birds and rabbits and several pigeons and guineas too! Met up with Gerald and Carla, got my NN Roo (Thanks Marybeth) we had a blast bidding on junk(Gerald and I did anyways LOL !!!) I did good, after what birds I sold I got out with only paying $14 difference!!! Got some great stuff and have plenty left to take back to an auction sometime!!! Wife was not as impressed by my treasures as I was but she got some books and shirts out of the deal and I got several glass items for my daughters wedding that saved a lot of money!!! Got home and unloaded and seperated stuff, put the roo up with is hens, took a short nap, went to do chores and found a dead guinea(Must have got scared and flew up and hit the top of the cage is all I can tell), a dead chicken(had leg problems) and of all things my Black Red Toppy stag that I was so proud of(he got into a pen fight with the NN ROO, never thought of them fighting as I had a roo in with the NN before and they got along fine!) I really hated that, why is always the one that are your favorites!!!??? Oh well on the other hand I had one hen hatch out three babies and another hatch out seven babies today and yesterday, have another hen that hatched out seven last week!!! Don the little NN I got from you are growing great, got two really nice red Roos in the bunch and some really nice reddish pullets, Joe my Brown Leghorn chicks are doing great too, ended up with two roos and three pullets!!! Donnie I think I got lucky and ended up with a pair of the New Hampshire red chicks!!! Also a few nice Americauna pullets too Don!!! I have chicks running out my ears!!!! May have some to sell at Poops, really want to see how they all grow out!!! Hope all had a blessed day!!! Lynn

Wind, wind go away and let it rain any day!!!!

I need some quail so I can set their eggs at the same time I set the chicken eggs, and then turn off the turner or move the chicken eggs to the bottom when the quail hatch.

I was thinking about the "infamous" Henry method of hatching this evening and decided to check the Sportsman to see when I set the first group of eggs.

There were 7 chicks hatched and on the bottom of the Sportsman, where they landed when the shelves turned. Three more were pippin. I removed the 7 that hatched and stuck them under a broody hen who is on her second set of eggs, turned off the light in the coop so they could bond tonight, and will move the hen and chicks to a better place in the morning. I moved the eggs from the broody into the incubator and turned off the turner, so those in this group can finish hatching.

I guess some of these eggs were either from the NN hens or the NN roos I gave Monty and Greybear this weekend had been busy, because 4 out of the 7 are NNs.

Yes, turkey eggs have a thicker shell than chicken eggs. You should be able to see if there is a dark area in most of the turkey egg however if they are developing - and depending on how long they have been in the incubator.
