Hmmm...great, both the cuckoos have that white area on head.

Another forum on sexing morans said, "The head of the Marans all have a light or yellow spot on the top of their head, generally very easy to detect, but if and when its really hard to detect, you usuallly have a ROO. "

So wouldnt' that mean the opposite? Remember I am totally new to this.

First I've heard, but like I said i'm 10% sure I'm wrong.

Hey Cayuse - she is an Ameraucana...still lots of yellow fluff on her head, but I had her in a blue container when I took the photo, so that and your monitor settings may make her look off-color!

I wish you could see how pink she looks on my monitor. Looks like you dyed her that color. My first thought, "I WANT ONE OF THOSE!"

Hey Cuban! How are you holding up against the coyote seige you've been defending?

I also believe the smaller headspot on a barred bird usually means female. The bigger, messier spots mean male.

Thanks Cuban and P&B. I didn't do a very good job on the beak procedure. I guess I wasn't holding her head hard enough and she twisted her head when I clipped. I made her bleed but I don't think I clipped her beak enough, so I will have to do it again. I'll wait until tomorrow, though. I'll have flour nearby this time!

edited to add - I think I have a styptic pencil, too...
