You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma

The Naragansett hens are good mothers, in my experience. They actually try to keep up with their poults and keep them rounded up and warm.

Congratulations!

well, we live on two smallish lots on my dad's place here in BC and though i think if i asked real nice dad would let me use more space (I am his baby girl, his only girl, etc) there's only about 2 acres total here. if i had my way i'd have 5-10 acres somewheres with as many chickens as possible!

Sounds to me like maybe too much air was exchanged cooling the eggs or maybe the temp was just set too low on the bator.

If you are using a thermometer that came with the bator the first thing that I want you to do is throw that thing as far as you can.

Next get a better one, perferably a digital with a high/low temp recall feature. I have been using one from Petsmart that is intended for reptile habitats and has a hydrometer built into it for years now.

Next I want to see where you have the bator set up. Any floor or ceiling vents near by? Does the room temp stay constant or nearly so all day and through the night? Does the sunlight from a window shine in on the bator at any time?

It is setting in a corner of my spare bedroom to the north end of the house away from the window which is on the north side. I am using the original thermostat that came with the turner. By the way it is a still air incubator. I will probably put some mixed eggs in my new bator this week for a test run.

Jim : Do you have a good Hygrometer/thermometer combo in there ???, if not they are a must have for better hatches. I keep 3 in mine when I am hatching.

AL

I only had a thermometer, I checked it with another one when I first set it up. what is a good source for Hygrometer/thermometer? I have a friend with the same setup and they hatch 75%.

Check these guys out, they are fast shipping and reasonable priced on most items.

I bought a couple of the ones that drop the remote into the vent hole $14.99 ea. Turned my hatch rate around BIG time!
