A lot depends on how they are housed. I have birds that are 5+ years old whose feet have never touched the ground nor can they mingle with wild birds and they have never been wormed. And BTW they were also hatched here out of parents that were wormed religously.
Now if the birds are on the ground free-range, they can comingle with wild birds or droppings from wild birds can get into the enclosure then I would worm them probably once yearly and maybe twice depending on droppings, yellow and foamy indicate worms as does blood many times in older birds, and how the bird acts. I usually start them off at about 1 year old.
For an infestation believed to be heavy I would use Wazine-17. If too many worms turn loose all at once it can set up a toxin in the intestinal tract and you can lose the bird. For routine worming I would use something like Noromectin. 1/4cc for bantams and 1/2cc for large fowl given orally.
