Good Afternoon Everybody!
Sounds like everyone is getting some well needed rain. At least it is not a deluge, with rivers running through the yard. If we could have rain like this for 4-5 days we might be out of the drought phase for a while.
Well got the outside chores done as much as possible before the heavier rain and wind kicked in. Everyone is at least feed and watered and that is most important.
Very excited though, Found three more babies under the incubator hen (Angie the blue Ameraucana) and two piping. The three that hatched appear to be one wheaten, one black and one blue/wheaten splash. Of the two that are piping one is a Millie Fleur!!
Out of a dozen eggs I bought at the Blanchard auction from Jack, so far 9 have hatched, one is piping, the other 2 I am hoping will hatch. That as far as I am concerned is a great hatch rate. Yes?
I have two other hens that seem to be aching to incubate so I am looking for special eggs to put under them. Maybe some more silverlaced LF cochins, or more millie fleur cochins. The sky is the limit. All the chicks I have hatched this year have grown up big and healthy. Knock on wood but this has been a good year.
By the way is anyone interested in some wheaten or blue/wheaten splash ameraucanas or maybe black? I am only keeping blue, black, white and blue splash. I do not need all that I hatched but they sure are nice birds. Guess I could bring them to POOPS to swap or sale. Just let me know, I will try to get pics posted soon.
Dang the thunder is getting intense. My big 20lbs cat (biggest wussy when it is storming) is hiding under the coffee table giving me stink eye, like this is my fault.
Better go out and check to see if any other babies have hatched or pipped.
Back in a bit!
