Donatations for the P.O.O.P.S. Raffle.

Time keeps on ticking ticking ticking into the fuuu-tuuure!

Hey we are closing in on the big event. Time to think about some items you may want to donate for the raffle. It doesn't have to be a big item (see idea's below)
This is one of the ways we raise funds to help with costs of the event.

For those of you that are new we have a raffle where you buy tickets (can't remember the price but cheap). Each item has it's own little bag that you drop your ticket into (so you will only win something that you were interested in) & at a designated time we will draw the winning ticket. Since we are doing the raffle this way, things for kids and adults will be in the same raffle.
I want to say thanks to everyone who has contributed to the raffle so far. I have received word of several items for the raffle, but we still need lots and lots more stuff. Again, if you have something you want to part with , keep us in mind and use it for a donation item.

At this rate I"ll never get my garden in the ground or get to mow! May have to give up and make a container garden...

Most seeds other than cold crop (English peas, cabbage, onion,etc) can be planted in Oklahoma into late June and July and will have time to produce a good crop. Sweet potatoe plants can go in as late as June 1 and still have time to make a nice showing. Beans and okra love the hot temps too.
These weird weather changes are the pits for in ground gardens. That's one reason for making all my beds raised. They drain and warm up quicker and I can control the soil mix. Another consideration is my back and neck injuries don't let me bend over easily..I can sit on the side of the beds to do the weeding.
The cold/hot/cold/wet conditions may also affect the number of bugs in the garden....I'm seeing more lady bugs than ever before and so far have not had any potatoe bugs....hope it reduces my nemisis..the squash bug too.

Squash bugs? Is that why I can't seem to grow squash here? In Michigan zucchini is like a weed. You have to check the plants every day or they get huge. You can see them grow. There are so productive that everyone drops them on their neighbors porches and then ring the door bell and run!
I was begining to think I'd lost my green thumb here when all my squash plant die every year. Any hints to keep them growing?

Hmmm........wonder what to bring? Any suggestions? What about a few water melons? Or I also have a few bags of black eyed peas, home grown I could also bring?

I've got 3 mo. chicks, 2 mo. old chicks and 1mo. old chicks and Friday I put the 9, 1 mo. olds in withe 5, 2 mo. olds (2 pullets and 3 cockerels). Everyone was fine except 2 of the older cockerels were a little bossy and rough to the youngers. I moved the two bullies in with the 3 mo. olds to give them a taste of their own medicine. Now in the rain everyone is being nice.

No you've not lost your green thumb. Good information found here:

One thing I do is water with a spray hose at the base of the plant. The bugs climb up the stems to get away from the water. I quickly squash them...they stink like a stinkbug so wear gloves.
Eggs are found on the undersides of leaves. With a pocket knife, I cut out the little section the eggs are on and then destroy the eggs. I don't want any eggs falling into the soil around the plants...I think squash bugs will live thru a nuclear attack just like cockroaches....

Vine borers can also damage a squash plant. Your leaves will appear to wilt. Examine the lower stems for bug frase...make a slit in the stem, remove the worm and then cover the cut with dirt.
